Picked up the GPZ500 today from the garage where it was getting restricted. I was pleasantly surprised as it had a lot more go than I thought it would. Acceleration is much improved from the 21bhp AR125 and I've seen 100 on the clock with another gear to go (didn't want to go any harder on the first day. Laughing )

I suppose this will get boring in a month and I'll have to have a poke round the air intake Wink was impressed at the performance though all things considered. Thumbs Up

Think it was £130 less VAT. They're coming out next spring.

Just get the bike dynoed with the restrictor kit in, then take them out so when the cops say it isn't 33bhp, you can prove them wrong by showing your dyno results of your '33'bhp GPZ, even though its something like 60 odd.

Have you seen what those things look like, how the can justify £130 is a disgrace, £1.30 would be about correct.

Bloody con.

Could you not just "make" the restriction washers and then get the bike dynoed for £15??

the best idea l,ve heared was fitting a section of air pipe on the throttle cable which resticted the opening of throttle so the bike would,nt reach its peak revs therfore was under 33bhp with a bit of trial and error. Wink

and remeber people, the law does,nt state what the restricter has to be.

your paying for the piece of paper to say its restricted at the end of the day, just take it easy if they come out. A guy i know had to get his written off bike tinkered with to get the washers back in, as he had a serious off and it was being investigated! Dodgy game to have to play, god forbid it happens to anyone!

If I understand it correctly, if you don't have a restrictor fitted when you should, you are technically riding without a licence and your insurance would be invalid. I would guess that if it was found out that you removed the restrictor on purpose, then the law would have little sympathy with you when or if you are found out.

I know there's various bits of legislation we don't agree with, but in my opinion is if you're meant to ride restricted.....then ride restricted.

Going back to the original post, I agree. When I picked up my restricted bike I was pleased with the improvement from the 125cc I passed my test on. It's enough to keep me going for now. I'll either wait for the 2 years to expire in September next year, or if I find I want more bhp before then I'll sit my test again on a bigger bike.

i agree with you 100%, it gives you the oppurtunity to experience the weight of a bigger machine, without unleashing all the power at once, as much of a pain in the bum restricting a bike can be, i'd say it is worth it in the long run, i for one can say i dont want to go through the whole cbt, theory, practical and hazard perception poo again! Not for the sake of 2 years anyway!
