First off I’m ok but the bikes not (sorry stew Sad)

My worst crash to date (First one involving another vehicle)

Ok here’s what happened.

Last night at about 7:40 I set off for work as usual taking the same route, just up the road from me theirs a shopping centre that enters on the main road, as I approached there was a car waiting to get out. Guess what happened next Sad.

Yep the car pulled out, as I was about 15-20 feet away. I'd just slowed down as a car that was infront of me had turned at the previous turning. So I had just got back upto speed when it pulled out. I braked but knew I was gonna hit it if I couldn’t swerve round it, unlucky for me there was a bus coming the other way. Bus or car? I chose the car.

I hit the right hand side wing smashing the car lights putting a huge dent in the wing and the bonnet. I was launched over the bonnet and landed about 10 feet away and the bike was sent spinning off to the other side of the road.

The woman driving and her husband were great to be honest helping me up and to move the bike while also phoning for the police and an ambulance and making sure I was ok. They admitted it was their fault, she just didn’t see me (us bikers hear that alot don’t we) The police arrived and took all the details etc and as I wasn’t that far from home I rang my brother and he pushed my bike home for me. I landed with my right hand first so it's in a bit of a state (I’m typing one handed here Sad) other than that and a bruise on my left leg I’m pretty much unhurt. Nothings broken just my hand has swelled overnight and is painful to use.

Damage to the bike as I can see at 6am ish:
Front forks bent
Front fairing smashed to bits
Indicators knackered
Huge scrape down the LHS

So now it's just matter for the insurance companies to sort out. Although I’m a bit worried after thinking about it overnight my bikes not restricted eek! But as far as I’m aware it never was? I’m just getting worried incase the insurance checks for restrictions?? I didn’t have my L's on either thought noone said anything about it to me and the police didn’t check the area where we crashed.

Argh I dunno I’ll be on this afternoon after sleeping off the night shift (yes I still went and did my 10-hour night shift Sad) and having a nice looooong hot soak in the bath.

A bruised but ok Zak.

sorry to hear that mate!

important thing is your more rather than less ok!

if the forks and plastics are shot its likely is it not that the bike will just be a write off ? Rolling Eyes so I doubt the insurance guy will look for any restrictors!

again sorry to hear that mate

At least you are okay Zak. Sounds like it could've been worse.

Still, can't believe you have wrecked the trusty NSR. Oh well, hope the hand recovers and hope you get a payout to help you fund that thundercat you were after.

well, as far as i can tell your gonna be waiting ages for your money from my experience they havent even sent someone of their insurance round to look at it(i had to get honda to quote it)

suggest you put some L plates on the bike, insurance companies will do anything to get out of it!. as for restrictions they never look. the people they send dont come with any tools so i wouldnt worry(im not)

the main thing is your safe and that it was her fault!

exactly the same as my crash mate. mine was a year ago. took about 5 weeks to get every thing sorted. if i was u i would claim for whiplash .its a grand in your back pocket. i did because i suffered back troubles for ages and id had enough, but they were not going to do anything about it, so i thought id get some compensation another way. im glad to here your ok it could have been a lot worse when i had my crash i ended up unconsious on the wrong side of the road. that could have been u under the bus m8. i really sorry to here about your crash cos it happens all the time, hope you get your bike fixed asap Very Happy

Wish you and your bike a speedy recovery.

On a seperate note i dropped the firestorm while moving it out the garden this morning... bent clutch lever, bent indicator and a few nasty scratches down the left exhaust.... my left leg slipped on something and bang dropped the bike, doh!

sorry to hear about the crash mate, but you'll definitely be able to claim something off her for personal injury. I work for one of the main insurance borkers insurance against legal proceedings, mainly personal injury!
I remember turning my bike around once, very slowly...in an icy carpark.
Yup, my foot went out from under me and there goes an indicator. but trying to pick the thing up in an icy car park i managed to drop it/slip a further 2 times, breaking the mirror and cracking the fairing Sad

Ok got up this afternoon and my hand is agony, i have a large bruise on my right thigh, my left shin and my left ankle. and my necks really stiff and hurts to move.

cant see much more damage to the bike, i dont think they'll right it off as only the forks are bent and all the plastics need replacing. the engine still runs ok.

god i ache Sad

i work for Greystoke legal services, within the Hanover-Park group.
i can get discounted insurance, but it's well expensive as they can't be bothered to spend ages looking for you. the part of the company that deals with motor insurance is called truckinsure, so go figure Smile
but you can get legal cover, through your solicitor, with us.
it's not no-win-no-fee (CFA) unless you really don't want all your money you win.
best type is where you pay an insurance premium, but if you win...and you will then the other side pays this anyway!
