 |
|
I'm trying to win an argument with a colleague who's going on about how dangerous motorcycles are - I've already used the example of G / Dusty / Ste's car crash last year but has anyone got examples of really weird deaths caused by mundane things so I can prove to him how he's 'living on the edge' in day to day life?
Thanks! |

I think over 3100 people die or are injured a year from D.I.Y accidents.
Try and look up how many people die from emergency vehicles mowing them down, that’ll shit him up. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

the fact that you've got more chance of being stabbed by a chav pikey jakeball in broad daylight for no reason at all on foot than on a bike, atleast you can run 'em over first.
what about pushbikes, smaller, silent, less power, more vulnerable and imo more likely to get run over by your typical cager.
Poeple that say bikes are just plain and outright dangerous are ignorant, get them on a bike and let them experience it.. granted if you ride a non-roadworthy bike, you're a bit of a madman with no roadsense or respect for the road/your bike/other road users and don't look out for yourself then you're likely at some point to come off or do something stupid.. but generally i think bikes can be safer than cars if you're sensible for many reasons (better view of the road, acceleration to get out of trouble, shorter stopping distances, more likely to avoid collisions, and if you know how you can control your part of the road and make the cagers give you space). only problem is diesel but can usually be spotted..
anyway that's my opinion. people don't get slated for jumping out planes with parachutes even though if something does go wrong you're almost certainly dead. |

I just wouldn't bother arguing. To Be Honest, how is one stupid arguement gonna stop you riding the bike? Sure you can pick out as many other real life dangerous things as you want but at the end of the day the media has manipulated enough people to believe that riding a motorbike is a deathtrap. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. ah found this quip from somebody else
!!! BREAD IS DANGEROUS !!!
Research on bread indicates that:
1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.
2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming households score below average on standardized tests.
3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years; infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and influenza ravaged whole nations.
4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread.
5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than that in one month!
6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and osteoporosis.
7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after as little as two days.
8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to "harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even cold cuts.
9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.
10. Newborn babies can choke on bread.
11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit! That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.
12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical babbling.
In light of these frightening statistics, it has been proposed that the following bread restrictions be made:
1. No sale of bread to minors.
2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete celebrity TV spots and bumper stickers.
3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal ills we might associate with bread.
4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.
5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools. |

Hi
Fishing. Plenty of people die doing that (remember one bit in MCN years ago commenting that more people died doing fishing for sport than died doing motorsport), doing things such as using a long rod under overhead power cables, or just getting their waders full of water and drowning.
People find loads of ways of killing themselves. Plenty die as pedestrians, cyclists or riding horses (think horse riding works out as the most dangerous form of transport per mile travelled)
All the best

THE 2004 DARWIN AWARDS -
People who have improved the human gene pool by "removing themselves from it in a spectacularly stupid manner."
7. A young Canadian man, searching for a way of getting drunk cheaply, because he had no money with which to buy alcohol, mixed gasoline with milk. Not surprisingly, this concoction made him ill, and he vomited into the fireplace in his house. The resulting explosion and fire burned his house down, killing both him and his sister.
6. A 34-year-old white male found dead in the basement of his home died of suffocation, according to police. He was aproximately 6'' 2" tall and weighed 225 pounds. He was wearin g a pleated skirt, white bra, black and white saddle shoes and a woman''s wig. It appeared that he was trying to create a schoolgirl''s uniform look. He was also wearing a military gas mask that had the filter canister removed and a rubber hose attached in its place. The other end was inserted into his rectum for reasons unknown, and was the cause of his suffocation. Police found the task of explaining the circumstances of his death to his family very awkward.
5. Three Brazilian men were flying in a light aircraft at low altitude when another plane approached. It appears that they decided to moon the occupants of the other plane, but lost control of their own aircraft and crashed. They were all found dead in the wreakage with their pants around their ankles.
4. A 22-year-old, Glade Drive, Reston, VA, man was found dead after he tried to use octopus straps to bungee jump off a 70 foot railroad trestle. Fairfax County polic e said Eric Barcia, a fast-food worker, taped a bunch of these straps together, wrapped one end around one foot, anchored the other end to the trestle at Lake Accotink Park, jumped and hit the pavement. Warren Carmichael, a police spokesman, said investigators think Barcia was alone because his car was found nearby. "The length of the cord that he assembled was greater than the distance between the trestle and the ground," Carmichael said. Police say the apparent cause of death was "Major trauma."
3. A man in Alabama died from rattlesnake bites. It seems that he and a friend were playing a game of catch, using the rattlesnake as a ball. The friend, no doubt a future Darwin Awards candidate, was hospitalized.
2. Employees in a medium-sized warehouse in west Texas noticed the smell of a gas leak. Sensibly, management evacuated the building, extinguishing all potential sources of ignition; lights, power, etc. After the building had been evacuated, two technicians from the gas company were dispatched. Upon entering the building, they found they had difficulty navigating in the dark. To their frustration, none of the lights worked. Witnesses later described the sight of one of the technicians reaching into his pocket and retrieving an object that resembled a cigarette lighter. Upon operation of the lighter-like object, the gas in the warehouse exploded, sending pieces of it up to three miles away. Nothing was found of the technicians, but the lighter was virtually untouched by the explosion. The technician suspected of causing the blast had never been thought of as ''bright'' by his peers.
AND THE WINNER OF THE 2004 DARWIN AWARD SHOULD BE....
Based on a bet by the other members of his threesome, Everitt Sanchez tried to wash his own "balls" in a ball washer at the local golf course. Proving once again that beer and testosterone are a bad mix, Sanchez managed to straddle the b all washer and dangle his scrotum in the machine. Much to his dismay, one of his buddies upped the ante by spinning the crank on the machine with Sanchez''s scrotum in place, thus wedging them solidly in the mechanism. Sanchez, who immediately passed his threshold of pain, collapsed and tumbled from his perch. unfortunately for Sanchez, the height of the ball washer was more than a foot higher off the ground than his testicles are in a normal stance, and the scrotum was the weakest link. Sanchez''s scrotum was ripped open during the fall, and one testicle was plucked from him forever and remained in the washer, while the other testicle was compressed and flattened as it was pulled between the housing of the washer, and the rotating machinery inside. To add insult to injury, Sanchez broke a new $300 driver that he had just purchased from the pro shop, and was using to balance himself. Sanchez was rushed to the hospital for surgery, and the remaining threesome were asked to le ave the course. NOTE: This last one wouldn''t normally count, because the idiot didn''t die. But because he cannot reproduce as a result of his qualifying act of stupidity, we have allowed it. ____________________ [Italjet MM5A] ll [Rieju RS1 Evolution] ll [Suzuki GS500e] ll [Suzuki GSX600F] ll [Honda CG125] ll [Pug Elyseo 125] ll [Yamaha YZF750R] ll [Yamaha Thunderace] ll [Yamaha R6] ll [Triumph 955i] ll [Hayabusa RZK3] ll [Suzuki RGV250] ll |

Life - it's an incurable fatal disease.
Bus stops - a case study we looked at. A woman was standing near the front of the bus waiting for her stop. A dog ran in front of the bus and the driver slammed on the brakes. She fell forwards and had head impact with the panel across the inside of the front of the bus below the windscreen. Dead, just like that.
Live live to the full, don't encourage death by doing stupid things, but don't sit around paralysed by fear of it, you'll only get DVT and die. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

There was an article in the paper the other day about a woman who was standing on a stepladder pruning a hedge with secateurs. Whilst she was doing this she was also throwing a ball for her small dachsund puppy to chase.
Her husband (a retired saferty officer no less ) was trimming the hedge with what said newspaper described as a chainsaw. Now, If it were you or I we would use a dedicated hedge trimmer wouldn't we?
Anyway, the woman threw the ball to the dog, lost her footing and fell onto her husband.
She was decapitated by the chainsaw.
