ive heard you need the papers that come with the restricters one 4 you one 4 ur insurance company and one 4 the DVLA i hope u dont coz i dont have them but i have the restricters can i just get it dynoed and use that as proof 4 both the DVLA and my insurance

Yes the dyno print out, as long as it shows 33bhp or less will be fine.

Hi

Legally in the UK the certificate has no legal meaning. However some insurance companies will insist on seeing some proof of restriction.

Suspect any copies the DVLA get set they just file in the B1N file.

You used to be able to learn on 250's didn't you? Was there any restriction on power then? Passing a test and not being any better off than you used to be as a learner seems a little ridiculous to me.

Hi

Think it was about 1982 when the 125 learner limit came in on the mainland (think it carried on until 1996 in Northern Ireland), and there was no power limit. Go back a fair while before that and there was no capacity limit.

does anyone know if there was a significant or any reduction in accidents/incidents when they dropped the capacity from 250cc to 125cc.

Or was this one more nanny state kinda law.

l agree with the action to drop the learner capatity from 250cc to 125cc, it was dropped because more powerful machines were coming out which were too powerful for a learner when you compair a CB250 superdream (a very common learner bike "cg125 of its day") to a RD250 Twisted Evil

would you trust a 17y old learner on a RGV250/KR-1S putting out 65bhp+

RD250LCs are also the reason WHY the learner limit was dropped to 125cc Twisted Evil

Incidentally, you can't even ride one on a restricted licence because the power:weight is too high.

Same goes for the other culprit, the Suzuki GT250X7

Difficult to say, but it would not surprise me. Reason it is difficult to say is that the reduction in the capacity allowed for learners caused a massive drop in the number of riders.

At the time you could litterally get your provisional licence from the DVLC, walk into a bike shop and ride out on an RD250LC having never even sat on a bike before. An awful lot of people wiped themselves out riding such bikes with little or no experience.

RD250LC's very scarey, especially jumping from FS1E to LC and not realising what happens when you wind it up,
