jumping onto a sports bike from a cruiser, ive ridden sports bikes before (for short periods of time) and i know what the position is like, is there anything i should look out for more on a sports bike, like front end weight or slow speed cornering, anything like that
cheers, Steve. ____________________ Current : 06 Zx10r, 07 Wr450f SM, 74 850 norton commando, 63 bsa b40, 1962 Triton 650, 67 Triumph Tr6r, 1955 Triton 750, 1978 TY250E. |

The fact that it steers would be a big enough shock for me.
Cornering on mine's a case of trying to give it a load of countersteer and hoping that the corner might be long enough for any decent rate of lean to be achieved without having to be really too abrupt with the bars.
Slow speed is a case of finely balancing the bars just before the point where they will just flop over to full lock without any extra input from me.
I can't help thinking that these are all really issues with me more than with it though.
The ride on a sportsbike will be a lot rougher, but you might get some feedback from the tyres at times other than when you're about to slide off the outside of a corner. It should also go and stop a little more convincingly, without plunging every time you venture anywhere near the front brake. I imagine it might be easier to lean over at speed without the suspension feeling like it has an unreconciled desire to bounce you into the stratosphere.
It's all good fun. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Drag bars are the way forwards. You get the sportsbike handling without the wrist strain and constant effort keeping the thing balanced.
Everyone I know who does distance riding on a sportsbike either has fitted, or intends to fit, straight handlebars of some sort. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
