Sick of my 125, need something better.....(I PASSED!!)

As i'm sick of my damn DT125lc, i've decided enough is enough i need to get a better bike! I've been riding it for about 8months and i've got about a year and half road experience.

Been using my car to get to work for the past few weeks and its really painful being stuck in traffic! on the bike it was taking me 25-30mins in hell traffic, by car it takes minimum 50mins!

So the theory test is booked, as soon as thats done the test is getting booked. Ideally i'd like it all done in about a month or so.

I've been thinking at what bike to buy, starting off thinking about getting a sports 400 FZR, CBR or VFR. But then overnight i've decided i think i should get a commuter type.
Why??... i dont know?? i think i'm trying to be sensible??

Anyways, im thinking of gettin a XJ600 Diversion as my 1st bike. (the DT doesnt count (..piece of crap!)) I only want to spend about £1000 on one, and there a couple of good examples for that price, 1994 - 1997 with between 10k and 25k on the clock.

-What is everyones opinion on the XJ600?
-Thoughts on the jump from 125cc - 600cc?
-Realistic getting licence and bike in a month or so?
-Technical Spec? Experience with the bike? Things to look out for?
-Any other advice?

On the subject of the jump in capacity and hp.. don't worry about it I made the jump from a Honda CB125 (12hp) to a GSX-R 600 (97bhp) and have found it to be far more comfortable and capable. I no longer have cars up my arse all day and have an infinite times more grip with the bigger tires. Far better road holding ability, no one taking the piss, filterable and very fucking fast.

As long as you can keep the heid you will be fine

dunno about the XJ..

the jump from a 125 to a 600, well that's just down to your right hand, although weight will probably cause an issue for a day or two.

Realistic getting your license in a month? definitely, i did! you've had 1 year and a half riding experience, you shouldn't have a problem.

Apart from that, the best advice i can give you is just don't give up getting your license, it's so much better with one!

Rode her for the 1st time today, and it was also the 1st time i've riddim somthing bigger than 125cc.......all i can say is wow, SERIOUS POWER!! and fast as ...........FAST!

Passed Theory on Thursday got 35/35 on questions and 56 on HP

Test is booked for the 29th June, fingers crossed!

They're good bikes, I've got the pre-divvy and it rocks, I ride it like a lunatic.

My mum had the 900 diversion aswell.

A good starter bike.

Hi

The Divvy is not that quick for a 600, but that makes it a pretty good first large bike.

It is not that quick on top end (top speed is about 120 I think) nor on acceleration, but perfectly adequate to get used to the weight and handling of something larger.

They are OK round town, brilliant down a motorway, no fun at all on A roads (I bought one for commuting, but with about 1/2 mile of dual carraigeway on a 27 mile mainly back lane commute it was not fun).

Only thing to watch out for is the vacuum fuel pump fitted to the early versions. Brakes are adequate. Fuel tank is an OK size (good compared to most Hondas). Finish is not bad (better than the Bandit). Riding position is quite comfy.

I'll mainly use it to commute to work which about 25mins down a duel carriage way.

On my DT it sometimes proved awkward as i didnt have the power to get away from the bunch. As soon as cars get a bit of open road they start drag racing!

I've had quick blast on it the other day and it seems crazy powerful, but then i'm comparing it to a 123cc 1987 DT125!

What do you think the the top speed would be in 1st and 2nd gear out of curiousity?

I'm sure my DT was pushing about 11mph in 1st and 20something in 2nd

Probably around 40 in first. That's a total guess going from my Daytona doing around 55 in first.

I thought once you have passed your practicle and theory, you are restriced to 33bhp for 2 years, right?
so how will you ride your 600cc bike?
any decent bikes under 33bhp for when i pass my test?
