OLD ZZR600'S

ok... so what are they like? inurance group? rideability? reliability? if they are like the 1100 i know i will love it but with me being a 17 year old nutter what is its cornering ability? (i ride my rs full throttle round corners ask dods!) will i learn on it? and is it worth it in the end?

im just looking to go down newquay on it, bit worried bout the insurance tho, 1200 quid 3rd party only, its only worth 500 quid! ive got a bit of an obsession with the zzr actually, i went on the 1100 to bmf, (on bk) and it was awsome, the roar of the remus can made me smile, 140 mile a hour with a pillion on aint bad either (15 stone of me)

You be able to get it cheaper than that.

Jon-B insured a bandit 6 for under £400.

I insure my XJ600 TPFT for Just over £600.
We're 17 and 18 respectively, I have 0NCB, he may have 1.

well. im thinking about buying it, taking it home, fiting racks ect to get me to newquay, and possibly a paint job(i have spray gun and other toys to do this at home,) trekking down there and maybe keep it for when i do france next year.

I am also looking at buying a ZZR6 in the near future. They seem pretty fab bikes, certainly not for the faint hearted and they look good as well. I'm hoping a cheap one will come up when I have the money. I should get quite a bit from selling the RD and possibly the RG. So that will go towards it, and any wages I earn.

Charlotte bought one last weekend from a local dealer to replace her GPZ500:-

N reg, 29K, good condition, almost new Micron exhaust (ZZR standard exhausts just about outlast a tank of fuel), new chain, 3 month warrenty, still got the centre stand, years tax and MOT, etc. Paid £2000. Could have got one cheaper privatly, but suspect for the same kind of condition and age we would have paid at least £1500 and struggled to find one with good exhausts and the like.

Nice bike to ride. Front suspension needs fiddling with (damping is too stiff, hopefully can be adjusted but someone might have used thicker oil). Seems comfy and good on fuel (decent range is important). Low enough seat for Charlotte to be comfy on it. Brakes are good (disks look new). Mirrors are pretty poor (but still better than the GPZ500).

lovely bikes cheap to insure, plenty of power (90-100bhp) and good handling wheelies well too


for a first 600 or just as a tourier they are fantastic. my 1993 has done 49,000 miles and is still going strong.

Any rough ideas on insurance for a 17 year old? As I said I'm looking into getting one early next year as my next bike, looking forward to the prospect, although I got my 125 to look forward to yet.

Also consider the Suzuki GSX600F, if you can deal with the looks of them.

They are Air/Oil Cooled, so servicing will be cheaper, and they are also 2 groups lower than the ZZR at Grp 11 Insurance.

Also GSX600's seem to be priced slightly cheaper than the equivelent ZZR, though they are not worlds apart to be honest.

Ive just brought one and fooking love it!!!! 1997 model awesome for comfort and great fun on the twisties even if it is 33bhp. Just need some people to ride with now Im 17 and was paying £160 TPO insurance on my RXS and am paying the same TPFT on the zzr, dunno whats goin on so I phoned my insurance company to confirm that there hadn't been a mistake and there hadn't!!
