Posted: 21:51 - 14 Jun 2005 Post subject: I did my motorbike test today and.... |
 |
|
I passed. Woo-hoo!
However it was an almighty struggle...
First - overslept and turned up half an hour late for my days training. Which wouldn't be a problem, but the other guy doing the training had to wait for me so I felt a bit crap.
Then, I found out that my full car driving licence doesn't say that I have provisional motorcycle entitlement....erm....crap....!!!
I had assumed the reason it didn't mention motorbike entitlement was because it didn't *need* to In fact it *does* need to!!! So.....I had been driving illegaly for the last year. Ooops.
However, it was technically DVLA's fault as they should have given me the entitlement automatically when I passed the car test. And quite apart from the fact that I've done my CBT and theory test, DVLA shouldn't have let me book the test without a valid licence!!
Anyway, the guys at the school spent 30 minutes on the phone to DVLA pursuading them to update their system with the entitlement which I should have already had, and getting them to fax the Oxford test centre to tell them to allow me to take the test. Eventually they agreed, but meanwhile I spent the morning sitting around the instructor school while the instructor went out without me. So no practice all morning....not what I had planned.
Confirmation came through from the DVLA at 12.30, so I was good to go - queue me mishearing my instructor and shooting off up the dual carriageway and losing my instructor for a while.
Not only that, but I noticed my instructor was being stroppy - which explained itself later on when I found out that he's been reading my posts on this site and found the one where I complained about the driver school he teaches at, and had obviously decided I was a mean + nasty person. Very frustrating having a stroppy person in your ear on a one-way radio!!! It was really irritating, and by the time we got to the actual test at 3.30, I was tired, annoyed, making loads of silly mistakes and convinced I was going to fail.
So, in the actual test, I forgot to do lifesavers, almost fell over going round a corner, swerved across a lane in a roundabout, and at the end of the test, couldn't even get the bike into neutral!! So I was 100% sure I'd failed and totally hacked off.
But, I passed!!
So two lessons:
- never give up!
- don't tell your instructor the address of websites where you've complained about his driving school....!!
All's well that ends well
-edit- I should also mention that, during the test, at the second junction we came to the examiner said "continue straight on" and I, for some reason unknown to me, did a left shoulder check and indicated left before realising he'd said "straight on". So I thought, I'm going to fail if I don't go left so I just did He was a bit surprised, but managed to follow me and all he said was "I actually said straight on, but don't worry about it!!" ____________________ Current: Yamaha Diversion XJ900

Excellent, at least you don't have to put up with that wanker for an instructor any more! |

I can hear him flicking through his testing manual to see if he can cancel his decision to give you your licence as we speak if he's seen this thread. ____________________ -=[Sam/b]=- cx500's the only way to travel, we do it in style just like jimmy saville
