Pain in the ass!

The following seems to be happening more often: I position myself in the right hand side of my lane, so I can see more ahead of me. Often i'll be behind a car, approaching a cyclist on the inside. The car will, 9 times out of 10, swerve around him, no indicators, nothing.... chances are that car had no idea I was there either.

This happen to many other people?

It would be an ass if a car swerves to avoid a cyclist and gits your bike... Yes it's the car drivers fault, but frustrating that cyclists are on the road and potentially causing incidents!

Its the ones that, when your indicating to turn left, you are positioned on the left side, but not right next to teh curb, and as you pull away round the corner, the cyclists hammer it past you on the inside! Evil or Very Mad I do understand though, cyclists and Mopeds are both a pain in the arse, always making cars move round them, slows up the traffic, if you can't drive at the limit, or even close to it, get off the road! Laughing

Get over it - I cycle a lot and as is the same for minority road users they get short shrift from people who drive cars.

I've noticed that a lot of the moans and groans that appear on this forum regarding Cars, Lorries, etc are echoed by those on cycle chat sites.

Sure, there are tossers who disregard even the most sensible road rules but the same can be said for motorcyclists.

But I have never seen a motorcyclist blatantly ignore a red light. In Reading it is rare to see a cyclist that does not ignore red lights... Confused

Sorry gonna have to agree with Steve on this one. I think your issue here is not so much with the cyclist but rather the somewhat unthinking reactions of the motorist when encountering one.

As for the spandex crew who cycle beside each other to take up a whole lane, I have to give them the benefit of the doubt and say it is much safer for them this way. Here in Australia even 1 cyclist has the right to "consume" a complete lane to themselves.
It's in the same vein as filtering. Moving to the front of traffic eliminates the possibility of being arse ended by a unaware driver and this act makes them a far more visible object and less likely to be bumped off by a passing cage.

I think if we get to the bottom of it, some of you are taking issue and reacting the same way to them as car drivers responde to us who ride motorbikes.
Be patient and have a little respect for other road users regardless of their transport. Isn't that what you are asking of others??

And finally if you are going to attempt to hit or scare someone on a bicycle and effectively put them and possbily yourself in danger for the sake of saving an extra minute on the road then you quite well maybe a dickhead.

When I was a cyclist it was cars and bikes who used to hold ME up and try to knock me off going through towns. I signalled, I looked (lifesavers etc). I used to do a respectable 22mph when on longer roads. Maybe I was just a bit more aware because I drive, ride and was a cyclist.

True, most cyclists are stupid - they don't look, they don't signal, and they can barely keep the bikes upright, but you get the same with car drivers, and dare I say it, bikers.

Campain (sp?) for more cycle lanes, an enforced cycling proficiency test, and no one will have to swerve!

And come on - the car swerves and nearly hits you, and you blame the CYCLIST?! Sheesh Rolling Eyes

Sounds like you're too close to the car in front and probably in his blind spot too.

This happens when filtering, i'm not ridiculously close, but obviously your relatively close seeing as your filtering through traffic in the first place!

I suppose my gripe here is yes, caused by car drivers with no awareness of whats around them on the road, but it's also directed at cyclists on the basis that, I have to pay to be on the road, they don't... they may indirectly cause an incident on the road... they shouldnt be on there in the first place Wink

On a more serious note, there should definitely be more cycle lanes though... on a recent trip to Amsterdam, where almost everyone is on a bicycle, the system seems to work so well there... we need something like that!

Because they believe that by riding like that they portray more of a presence in the road than by riding in single file (which consequently slows other road users down and stops occurences of vehicles speeding by within arms reach of them).

The aforementioned is true however if they don't move over when you approach give them a bollocking as stubborness and ignorance of other road users has probably taken over.

I never ignore red lights, if theres a red light i'll go and use the green man instead! Laughing

You get in our way too. Not going past cars when theres plenty of room, or going past us then pulling up at the side of the road, fucking ignorant bastards. As said dickheads are on all forms of vehicles, im one who only rides two luckily.

And cyclists ride side by side because it does offer greater presence and makes people judge their overtakes properly as opposed to pushing you closer to the kerb then the 5 inches you were away from it already.

P.S. And I wish to use speedhumps as ramps that then cuase me to go into a headshake/tankslapper then thats my choice. Gets people to move further back actually! Mr. Green

You appear to be a bit of a tosser mate.
Just remember that a lot of cyclists ride fast motorbikes as well.

If you did that to me or any one of a number of people in my moutain bike group who also ride motorbikes, youd better fucking hope none of them ever recognise your bike one sunday at any popular bike meet...
Some of them are a bit 'volotile' and it would almost certainly be very painful for you.

Now I know this was said in jest but holy shit, should I be flipping the govenment a dollar every time I want to cross the street by foot. After all I would be using the road or do you suggest I swing from lamp post to lamp post to cross the street. (yeah yeah monkey jokes aside Shocked )

There seem to be a few irrational points being made.
After all most of here would be quick to bitch if the price of registering a motorbike went up or sook now about the money we spend to have one on the road and sure as shit no one would complain if they said from now on it's free.

Also as for saying they won't move over and give the lane to you as you come past. How many of us would be willing to let a car drop into your lane because the driver felt because it costs more to get on the road or simply it has a larger presence that you should effectively put yourself in danger for their impatient benefit.

Don't get me wrong I know sometimes other motorists or cyclists in this case can give you the shits real well but be realistic in your expectations and views about how others behave simply becasue it's you.

Im guessin that half of us here didnt even think of the issues that motorbike riders encounter on a daily baisis, whether it be annoying shit or life threatening shit until you actually began to ride and see it first hand.
Maybe you should ride a day on their wheels to get a better understanding. There may even be reasoings behind it that you may never think of.

R4nger.
Its interesting that you find people posting up that they are going to give cyclists a 30mph slap perfectly acceptable. considering how dangerous and painful it could be.
ALso this is exatly why motorbikes and riders are not as welcome as they could be in many places.

But when I post that this attitude makes the poster a bit of a tosser, a lot of people ride pushbikes as well as motorbikes, and if the person was to give a 30mph slap to a lot of people in my mountain bike group they would probably get it back if thier bike was recognised at a bike meet, you find that abusive.

I think you have the abuse back to front in my opinion. Im not the one threatening to hit and endanger other road users because they are 'in my way', and tarnish the rest of us with the same brush.

Says a lot about you mate. And a lot about the sort of people who ride bikes these days. And we wonder why we get a hard time...

Indeed.

I wonder how many of those that try and really scare cyclists will be complaining when they get stopped by the police for a loud can or more menial things; when local people have complained about 'dangerous bikers'.

BTW, dont forget that when in your car it's very easy for a cyclist to ride closely next to you with only our pedals touching your car in stationary traffic, bear in mind that alot of pedals are made of metal Wink

God a thread goes up a few people making jokes about slapping a cyclists are and the while thread goes into a "if they recognised your bike they would kick the shit out of you uproar"

Cyclists can get in the way big deal they are relitevaly close to the kerb anyway. Just everytime someone moans peoples Penny Coin Penny Coin appears which is all good and fair but then after abit the thread does get boring and repetative with people saying the samethings over and over either "i dont like them or you should ge over it", just calm down some of you do get carried away with some threads.

err yes i see it all the time in 20mph zones and even in 30mph zones

There speed camera in new Malden that is constantly been set of by cyclists

And I hate to say it speed isn’t the devil it made out to be it is people not paying attention to the road and generally driving like complete morons that is.

Speed it just a handy one to lump all the blame onto and as a happy coincidence be very easy to automatically fine people for.
