the new MOT

i had my bike MOT done the other day , and it is now all loged in a computer ,,i did still get a kind of certificate but it's nothing like the old type ,,its more of an A4 size reciept , but the good news is that i can now get my tax disk online ,,as all the documents are regesterd now ,, any of you had your tax disk done online ?
mine will be renewed at the end of this month ,,

That's a freaky double post.

I'll be MoT-ing my bike in the next week or so, I'll be surprised if the station has updated to that yet. It will be so much better to get my tax online though, the bloke in the post office is a right miserable sod; scrutinises everything like you're trying to pull a fast one. It will also be better because I can't be arsed to go to the post office.

Does this mean more fines? IE if your bike is not declared SORN but the MOT has run out you're gonna get a fine in the post?

Yeah, this online MOT'ing is going to be a real pain in the ass. We are hanging on manually for as long as possible as its taking ages for the dealers to log in to the system, which isnt good when we have 10 job cards to do in the workshop. I also believe the price is going up too

had a MOT on the CB400N yesterday, was,nt logged and l still got the old A5 size blue/green paper.


if they are bringing recording of MOT via PC nation wide will they log the mileage/minor points/fails so history checks can be carryed out on-line.

After finishing UNI I signed on (Going back to 94) and even back then you could get your bennefit paid in to your bank account. Why the f*** queue.

37 mins on a bike, its only about 45 on a car. You have to log in and out with a smart card so they know when you start and finish. Mot computerisation is a pain for the mot stations for sure, my work place went computerised last week and its been nothing but chaos.
Mind you, its nice for me not having to do lots of writing.

The one i went to today Cobb's is usually really leniant. She asked my dad if his numberplate was the correct size and standard exhaust. She said if they weren't then they refuse to do the test. wtf?

my bike is due its first MOT at the end of the month... i know the regulator needs replacing to sort the electrics before i send her in.
someone told me you have to have a reflecter on the rear of the bike ... does this mean i have to go and re-attach that nasty rear mudguard on the NSR so it will pass the MOT?? meh

The tester's supposed to show you his card(it's got a photo on)to confirm the right guys doing the test.

It's proberly going to register on the system they use with the tax camera on the side of the road.And when the police stop you they'll know straight away whether you're legeal or not.

Ive installed a few phone lines in Car/comercial vehicle workshops and garages for this new MOT system, and most people that i have spoke to in the trade either dont like the idea, fearing that it will be more time consuming and mean that they wont be able to get as much work done. The other thing that they are worried about is the details being lost in the system, like some of the problems that the DVLA has had with their own computer systems, and the hassle that this would cause. Im all for a Strict but fair MOT where the job has to be done properly everytime, but another downside to this system is that should they fail a vehicle on a basic fault like a blown bulb, then the whole test must be conducted again, and logged into the computer, and this will mean re-testing every item not just the point that the vehicle has failed on. Obviously it will mean that re-testing will now always be chargeable, unlike some MOT testers who in the past would have let you fix the fault and re-test for free.
