I just bought myself a GPX600R. I know, It's not what I wanted, but a '96 with 7,500 miles for less than 800. It's like brand new. I'm happy cos I didn't have to borrow anything to buy it.

Anyway, missing the point, but had to explain the choice of bike. My last steed was an SR 125, so can you imagine the thrill of going down the A3 on this. Got insured at 3pm, started to ride it straight away and it's now midnight!!! Just got in!!!

WOW!

Had to share that, cos I'm still rushing! What have I been missing all these years locked up in a cage!

Hi

£800. Sounds like a good buy. Take it is one of the later GPX600s (think when they introduced them they dropped a few bits that were a total pain, such as the anti dive).

All the best

Keith

That's right, a late one.

I never did 120mph on a bike before. I've calmed down now. The excitement has passed.

A nice cup of horlicks and my pipe and slippers!

Well, you could open the throttle a bit more Wink .

Think the true top speed is around 135mph~140mph, so mid 140s indicated at least.

All the best

Keith

Kickstart, I could've twisted the throttle more but my bollox weren't big enough.

Went to my dad's again this evening, same route, same speed. Just don't feel confident when the road bends. I lean, it goes round but not enough, lean some more and think my God I hope this is gonna make it. I'm here, so it made it. Only the second day though, lots to learn. Love that counter steering by the way. Learnt that from this forum.

Hit a cats eye this evening. Shocked That was a bit disconcerting. First thing I did when I got home...... Change underpants. Laughing

Wasn't over keen on the bike when I bought it. It's in very good nick and cheap, so I had to, but now I love it!

Hi

They were a fairly flighty bike. You will probably need to be fairly careful with tyre choice and pressures to stop it being too nervous.

All the best

Keith

Thank you Kickstart,

I read this about the tyres on a Kawasaki forum (Might have been here for that matter!) Also got in with the professional karting scene recently. I found out there that tyres go off just through temperature changes and age.

It's got standard size Battleaxe BT45's on it, they are a year old with 500 miles on them. Your post reminded me to check the pressures! Thanks

Thats a good bike at a great price! A mate from my m/c maintainence college class recently paid £500 for a 1985 GPZ900R. The bike has only done 19'000m and he got it with no tax or mot, but its near mint condition, and just needed new tyres and a mirror.
Ive always kinda wanted a GPZ600R and i like the late 80's style of them, and have always wondered if you could put more modern tyres and brakes on, how good would it be then?

Check for the Bridgestone recommended pressures. Think they often recommend a slightly higher than standard pressure for the BT45.

All the best

Thanks again Keith. Will check with bridgestone.

And Stevo, I wasn't too keen on it at first. Wanted a 600 Bandit, or something with later styling than the GPX, but when I'm riding it, I don't care what it looks like, I just twist that throttle and my grin gets wider and wider. I'm smiling now writing this just thinking about riding it. I've only been round town today so no real speed. Got to think of other road users you know!!

My first sportsbike was an old 1989 FZ750 genesis, i had the same experience as you, the buzz as i watched the speedo sweep past 110-120-130-140 steadily, not the usual small bike feeling that your caning the poor bike senseless, just the bike complying and accellerating without fuss!
