Do screens make a difference?

Hi,

Never had a screen, but the wind at 70 ishhh can get a bit intense.

Now I do own a screen for the ER5 , in that as soon as I got my bike I took it off (sorry instigator), (it was iridum like those reflective sunglasses).

Now is it worth putting it back on, or is the difference not worth bothering with.

I'm guessing that the height and angle of the screen makes the most difference.

I did my test a month ago on a CB500. The wind hitting me at 70 was quite disturbing. (never had ridden that fast before)

The day I passed my test, I jumped straight on a ZZR600 and expected the fairing to remove the wind.

It certainly did not. It just directed it more towards my chest.
Other ppl that have ZZR's have tried bubble screens, and said that the wind then gets directed at their lid, which is even worse!!

I have since gotten used to riding at 70+ and hardly notice the wind anymore. Its something you should get used to quite quickly, but it never goes away.

The idea of the wind hitting you in the chest is to take some of the weight off your wrists, or so I'm told.

I love my double bubble for my D6. Takes the worst of the wind away. Would never go back to stock.

Screens do work but as said above, it depends what effect you're after. Some people just cherish the naked look.

Would suggest at least a fly screen for around town. If you've a long commute and/or motorway speeds consider something bigger. Over distance at speed the effect of the wind hitting you (+ the noise, so always wear earplugs) can reduce your concentration and increase your tiredness.

There are alternatives, FYI the clocks on the naked bandit are supposed to act like a small fly screen, deflecting the wind.

Having ridden a CBR600 with a double bubble for the last 8 months then moving onto a Hornet with no screen I can tell you the diffference is immense. Get one, you wont look back! Also forget about 'wind taking the weight off your wrists' if your on a street bike you shouldnt be on them, if you have correct posture on a sportsbike it should also be no problem. This is from doing 350 miles last year on an RS125, my wrists didnt hurt, but admittedly everything else did!

Mondeo Kid, what are you wearing?

I found with good fitting leather the wind is so much less of a problem than with the well armoured textile jacket I have.

Also when going really fast, Its nice to go to sleep on the tank and hide behind the screen.

Its always worth having a screen.

I've streetfightered my GSXR 1100, but sorely miss the fairing. I cannot sustain high speeds as the wind makes it hard going.

I intend on fitting a headlamp screen as soon as I can afford it.

Well the screens back on,

Not sure about it yet, its not the biggest of screens.

It seems to be more windy up top now, than it was before.
