Hand held radios ??

Ok I'm still trying to get a few mates into riding bikes with me and god willing I should have 1 or 2 with me for next summer (just gone winter here in Australia).
So up til now its riding along side a mate in his car or the odd ride with a mate who actually has a bike .
Gets to be a pain in the freckle though not being able to chat unless you're stopped at the lights and side by side.
So i've just ebayed myself a couple of uhf hand held radios with vox (voice activation) and a sweet throat mic (like in the spy movies- normal ear peice but the mic straps to your throat) this way there is no interference from the wind and it doesnt need to be inserted into your helmet.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else had taken a shot at 2 vehicle communications in one way or another and if anyone had any pointers or successes/failures with it .

Cheers Mg thanks for the reply. supposedly the throat mics are meant to only pick up on voclas and are made specifically to supress wind noises and such. So gonna give em a go. With quite a few viewing this thread but not replying I'm either thinking that haven't trried it or simply do see the need. Either way once I've have a chance to test them out I will put the result on here if anyone is interested.

As for me I don't mind having a bird with big norks pointed out to me. If I'm going to fast to look just means I need another pass Very Happy

I played around with this some years ago, to the extent of wiring up CB on the bike. Maybe it was the quality of the kit at the time, but any attempt to use vox was abysmal - by the time you got it so the wind didn't trigger it, you had to shout. Earpieces either kept falling out, or hurt because they were too bulky.

Maybe the quality of kit has improved now, but I found it too fiddly to be arsed with. I decided to leave the idea to the Goldwing riders.

I got a couple of VoX radios, they're good around town. Get to the motorway and you can hear precisely f*ck all.

But then I did buy cheap radios and cheap headsets. Maybe your throat mic set up will work better.
