hi i just got myself my first set of proper motorbike boots and noticed they came with toe sliders, since i have hardly any chance of getting my KD i thought i would practise scuffing the toe sliders in a bit, a fair few roundabouts latter and they are working in nicely. just wondered anyone else likes to toe-slide or is it all in the knee for you people?? i mean toe sliders are obviously easier to get scuffed in but i dont move my feet from the pegs thats just cheating, i have oly been able to get them down on roundabouts so far and once on a really flowwing corner on my way home. any toe slider stories?? anyone?

Toe sliders are there to prevent your boots getting damaged. Knee sliders are there to prevent your trousers getting damaged.

Scuffing them purely for the sake of scuffing them always seemed a rather funny thing to do to me. Wink

I've found that my boots work quite well for determining lean distance. While I've never gotten my knee down, I can understand why people feel it helps to comfort big lean angles.

Watch out for over doing it.

Toe sliders can be hard to replace if they aren't a popular make, i have found.

Also you can go too far and it starts eating into your boot (which is what happened to me) this was solved with some super glue though.

I couldn't replace the toe sliders on my Heine Gericke boots.

So I glued some velcro on them and just velcro'd some on.

Getting my toe down was a couple of days before my knee went down. You'll soon get out of the habit of toe sliding, it wears them out far too quickly and ends up an expensive hobby.

Whereas knee sliders are about a tenner and can last a year? on the road.

First time I got the toe down I thought "This is rubbish" and from then on rode with my toes on the pegs.

I often lift my toes onto the pegs to stop toe sliding on roundabouts or when Im banked over. The bike Im on now (hornet) has low pegs, and touches down far too easily/quickly so a kneedown is normally accompanied by a toe/peg down too cos my legs are so short!

My boots are Sidi Vertigo Corsa's so come with ceramic toe sliders which refuse to get scuffed and have zero friction (handy) but Im upgrading my kneesliders to titanium, so will probably follow with a pair of titanium toe sliders for ultimate sparkage!

By the way, if deliberately getting your toe down is your thing be careful not to get your foot dragged into the chain/wheel!

Getting your toe down on purpose is such a silly thing to do. Ive known two people who have got there tow down on a bend the toe slider has catched on the road surface and *SNAP* broken leg.

Never try and get your toe's down for a reason it is so dangerous.

Toe sliders are there to protect your toe's in the event of a lowside type accident, or if you accidently get your tow down, they do catch on the road and will.

Catching on the road doesnt involve friction, it involves a dent in the road surface for the toe slider to catch on.

Got my toes down a fair few times (NOT hard on a cruiser with low front facing pegs!). The last time I did it by accident on a roundabout. Twisted my right knee in the process, the doc at A&E was quite shocked that I hadnt dislocated it.

He thought that my tight over trousers saved the day there.

In short, DON'T attempt it, and feel yourself luckey if you do it by accident and dont come off worse for it!

I think you'd have to be riding pretty extremely duck footed to break a leg from hitting anything.

If my toe is down my toes are still facing forwards, I'd say it's extremely unlikely to break my leg even if it were to hit anything, which again is unlikely.

I can imagine it doing a lot of damage if you're sticking your toes out at a right angle to the bike just so they'll touch down. But then hopefully no-one does that...

You never know, cruisers make you stick your legs at about 45^ to the bike. So it is possible.

I have to ride with my feet at 35^ to the bike, its very uncomfortable otherwise.

I've just gone through a pair on my Sidi Vertigo boots, but they were the soft nylon ones so I've swoped them for the ceramic insert ones, they leave a nice white line around corners Very Happy.

I've been trying to get my knee down and I've been using my toe slider to tell how close my pegs are to the floor as I don't want them to be scraping on the floor.

Strictly speaking your boot/peg ought to go down after your knee...

Leaves a white line on corners? Christ, you go back and check!!!?

Silver, Im not on my bike Im on the hire firms hornet. Never been able to get the knee down on my CBR but its easy on the hornet. I have no real choice, theres about a mm difference between just the knee and the knee/boot combo!!

Best tip for GYKD that Ive heard was on here. Some guy said to lean forward as if kissing the mirror, so instead of just sticking out a knee my arse is off the seat, im leaning forward with my elbows bent and my head alongside the bars almost. Works everytime. I got my right knee down today too, im chuffed Ive got both down now!! Just wish I had my RS125 still so I could go out and do it on every bend!

I just dont see the point really, why bother. Isnt biking dangerous enough without deliberately putting yourself in danger?

Meybe im just sounding 91, instead of 19 when i say that though.

Toe Sliding is Fcuking cool.
Get yourself some Titanium ones.

Then go out, blow these pussies in the above messages into the weeds, once you have passed them, go into the next bend with Titanium Toe Slider firmley grinding away and send a shower of sparks that the useless gits will never forget.
I'll garentee that as soon as they see the sparks the poo there pants and back off Twisted Evil

hehe some mixed responses, being a Learner at this toe down lark i did actually one get my toe slider to snag on the road and it whipped my leg down onto the road but it was fine just as if i had out my foot down lightly whilst turning a normal corner, thinking about sparking sliders couldnt i just bodge a couple of little woodscrews into the slider or am i being silly/tight.

Got my toe down the other day as i had my feet in 'commuter' position rather than thrashing knee down position.

All it did was to lift my foot up off the peg.

Toe down normally means your getting to a decent lean angle, and you need to get your toes off the floor onto the peg, hang off and stick that knee out! Laughing
