..Pugwash registered on here fairly recently and has posted a few times.

Just to let you know he was caught in the flash floods that hit Helmsley this weekend, as he intended staying at the rally site for another night.

He was airlifted to safety from a tree, as he got washed away attempting to save his bike. Last I heard the bike had not been found yet. Crying or Very sad

PCGuru has also lost his bike, but is safe too.

A lot of the traders, and MAG themselves, have lost equipment as the site has been completely devastated, but there are no reported casualties that I know of.

Can you imagine if this had been Saturday when there were over 9000 of us camped there? Sad

Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected.

Not good at all. The A19 was even closed yesterday around the Northallerton/Thirsk area so it must of been really bad!

I'm guessing you were in Helmsley for the farmyard rally? A few of my good friends were also there over the weekend, havent spoke to them yet, just hope they got home safe and sound.

Glad to hear theres no casualties. Bikes can be replaced, but the riders cant.

Bugger.

I met PCGuru at the rock and blues a couple of years ago, good to hear that he's got out OK. Shame about the bikes though.

Yup, it is the Pugwash you know, and I still haven't heard if they've found the chop.

They did get a mention on the local news at lunchtime. Something like "Several bikers had been airlifted from a field after been found clinging to trees, their bikes swept away in the floods."

Peter Gibb, from Carrickfergus, was taking part in a motorbike rally and was staying on a campsite in the village when the flood started.

"We got a phone call from one of the organisers who was further up the site, telling us to get out of the tent and get our bikes to safety as quick as possible because there was a wall of water coming," he said.

"So we jumped on our bikes and rode down the side as quickly as we could - there was a four foot wall of water that chased me the whole way down the site.

"I was able to pull up onto a path and the water just swept past pulling cars and all sorts, portaloos, caravans, livestock and sheep, you name it."

PC's bike, a CBR1000, was also found, and despite having been completely submerged, he managed to get it started and rode it home.

Thumbs Up to Honda!

Glad everyone is OK, gutted for those who lost bikes and camping equipment, and of course gutted for the people of Helmsley (and the rest of Yorkshire) who have so often made bikers welcome in their town.

Just seen the news report on Sky News! Shocked

Looked very nasty indeed from the helicopter shots, surprised no one was hurt.

Also surprised that the CBR started up and was rideable after being totally submerged! Would of thought water in the engine and electronics would of killed it well and true. Big Thumbs Up to honda. Hope other people were as fortunate enough to find their bikes still in a recognisable condition.

They most likely won't. My mum knew a woman that had her car taken away by the floods of Boscastle, tryed to claim from insurance, but they said they can't pay out because it was a flood. As you say, its an act of nature, it cannot be helped. Very unlucky.

yes, hopefully Keith's insurance are gonna pay out

he reckons his busa is totalled, silt in the electrics and the ecu etc...

I really hope Pug can get his done, maybe it won't be so arduous given that the bike isn't as (ahem) sophisticated as a busa

I think he already has the engine stripped down to it's component parts so here's hoping Thumbs Up
