Hello. Just bought a Honda NSR125R 1991.

Just to play it safe i want to change the oils.
1. I wanted to know if it uses separate oils for gear and engine
2. What types of oils do i need and what kind of oil filter is best suited for this bike?
3. What other consumables should i change?

Thank you very much.

Use a good two stroke oil in your 2 stroke tank, rock oil PP2 is a nice semi synthetic that offers good value and top protection, and in your gearbox i recommend silkolene light gear oil, anout the best you can get for stroker gearboxes!

There is no filter on most if not all 2 stroke engines. As for engine oil, i'd use good fully synthetic oils such as Motul600, Castrol TTS and Putolene TTX. All are around £10 per litre.

use only for the engine fully synthetic 2 strokes oil , for me the best is motul 600 . for the gear box i use fully synthetic oil for automatic gear box such as dextron III (and i fill 5 cc more than recommanded).

I use Putolene TT Sport in the engine, I'm told it's one of the best 2T oils out there since potolene only make oils for bikes, and not cars.

I need to change the gearbox oil soon as the bikes done 3500 miles. What's the general consensus on the best gear box oil for the NSR. I want the best, not nessesserally the most expensive, but the best?

look above , this oil makes the gearbox much smoother . many mates in france run on that , the only thing against is that the oil must be changed more frequently (something like 3000 miles)

I'd still recommend silkolene light gear oil and pp2. My MZ301 did 70,000 miles on this combination without major work and is still running now.
