ok sort of looked it up and it says it must work on main and dip beam. does this mean that they have to have a main and dip beam?

you'll need dip and high beam and a tail, licence plate and brake light to get a full mot.

Do you need a working parking light if theres supposed to be one? (dispite their only use being very slowly killing your battery overnight)

I had mine MOT'd Friday just gone, and I dont recall him checking the side light!? In fact, all he checked was tyres, lights, brakes, indicators and forks. Didn't check the wheel bearings or head bearings
