Does anyone know the thread size and pitch of the puller used to remove the rotor? Was told it was M12 x 1.5 but its not. Unless anyone has a puller they can lend me Very Happy

Cheers all,

Rob

You probably won't need one if you are just removing the alternator/coil (didn't need to on my Cbr400 Gullarm), but if you then want to remove the rotor, I have no idea which size you need. Smile

My Cbr400 Haynes has a diagram which shows you how to make one (looks quite a basic but effective contraption), and also has a picture of the puller which Honda probably want loads of money for.

Do you want to remove the coils or the rotor? A Haynes manual tells you all really, 'cos I am basing my knowledge on the CBR which is similar but not identical, hehe.

Cheers for the reply.

Think they must be slightly different. It is the rotor I need to remove to get to the stator underneath. Need to see what damage, if any before I start deciding what is wrong with the electrical system.

My haynes has nothing about a homemade puller, it just says 'it is necesarry to use a puller'! If I knew the thread dimensions I could probably just buy a bolf from a diy store (specialist) and use that because thats all the puller is, a bolt that you screw in so that when it bottoms out it threads the rotor off.

Any instructions on making one would be useful lol Wink

Cheers,

Rob

Sorry I miss-read, you can't make that type of puller up...

I can't help you with the size, but you could ask www.400greybike.co.uk (VFR4 section) for help and if anyone's local to let you borrow the tool if you're lucky etc.

ps from experience it's probably the reg/rec (very common problem on Honda 400s) or possibly, but more unlikely, a burnt out stator, (but that should be noticeable). Both of these went on mine. My rotor looked OK, dunno guess there isn't much too it. Best to check them all out though, just giving you ideas and probabilities.

Good luck

Cheers. The reg is fine (not cooked) but on its way out i'm guessing as the plug from the alternator to the reg has cooked itself so im guessing faulty reg and windings (hence need to remove rotor to check).

Was going to ask on 400 forum but it's down at the minute thats why I have transferred over here briefly to ask a few q's. Nice forum though so i'll be visiting here more often too I think Smile !

Cheers again for your help

Rob
