chain question!!!!!

i need to remove me chain from em rs125 to clean off 12 months of road shit off me frame? first of all how do i remove the chain and how do i remove a couple links as its near end of adjustment?

bearing in mind my technical knowledge is very small

I totally agree with Bezzer, if you need to remove a couple of links to get it to sit correctly then its time to change your chain and maybe spockets.

If you have it snap it could cost you dearly for a new gearbox chain cover and maybe take your leg off while it getting on it way.

I remember some of my first bikes when I was younger though (not making any judgement on your age) - just running the spockets till they were virtually round - lol When the chain drops off and gets caught in the spocket nuts its not to bad at 40mph on a 50cc - but on an rs 125 you may be traveling a bit faster than 40mph

well I once fed the clutch in at the lights to pull away and chain snaped. We are talking 2k RPM here. My chain fired forwards and took my front sprocket guard and half of my engine out...

Luckily the part of the engine casing which was cracked wasnt actually serving a purpose, It was just the edge for where the Chain guard sits...

With it being a 25 year old bike, The part I need is a Discontinued part! Evil or Very Mad

Anyway. Get your sprockets and chain changed. It will be 100 squid MAXIMUM!

Or £500 for a new bottom end and a rebuild!

If you want to remove it you need to either undo the split link or break the actual chain if it’s a riveted one.

If you can't find one, you'll need a chain breaker and a riveter to get it back together. An expensive tool if you're just taking it off for a clean.

As said, if you're considering taking links out, then your chain is getting to the end of it's life.

Just replace the chain and sprocks, good quality standard non o-ring chain and sprocks fro your bike would amount to 35 quid tops.

O-ring chain is mostly for show on this as its not a powerful bike.

As a tight fisted money saving measure i run non o ring heavy duty chain on my GSXR1100 and it lasts fine, provided you clean and lube it regularly.
