After reading that link on position by joe (i think), ive been trying a bit more spirited handling along the mighty A507. Anyhew i overtook a couple of slow riders who were doing 90 on the top straight you can easily do 150 on (isolated nsl road) and threw it into the sharp 90 degree left hander (directly after a little wiggle to the right...youd know it if you rode it... honest) perhaps a tad hot. As i have no knee sliders i have to hold my knee in at present, however managed to get toe and foot peg down (and i was on the balls of my feet before you say it).

Anyway, my point was, is it meant to have pretty much decapitated it? I know they 'where' virgin before the aforementioned incident because i was musing about them just the other day. And its literally taken a 3mm square lump off at a 45 degree angle. If not more.

Nice to get the toe down again though without pretty much riding duckfooted as i used too. Still slap my boots on the floor occasionally at high speeds changing up in low gears when leant over. Slowly slapping some skill into myself.

But anyway, arent they meant to be harder wearing? Did i just catch a lump in the floor? Are there replacements (non anodised tat) available reasonably cheaply?

hmmmm sounds like there made of cheese Wink seriously I have had mine down for quite a bit of time before I realised you can crash from them hitting the deck and getting caught up but just bevelled the edge down a bit on them nowhere near worn down though I think you can just buy replacement steel items if you want good life span

Surely its like a stonehenge problem though. People walk past it, and then walk off with a bolt or bar end Laughing

Magpies must loathe you.

Serously though... Why purple?

And btw my problem with anodised hero blobs is because they are uber un subtle, so sale would be more difficult, and are usually just plated, which means one touch down and you have a huge silver patch. Not to mention far from hard wearing.

Titanium ones would be cool though Twisted Evil Might look into that.

The metal sliders under footpegs on sportsbikes for when you get very low to stop you crashing and to be coooooool Cool

Seriously can you buy titanium ones, that would be so cool. Although i would crash trying to see them myself.

Personally I'd rather take them off, they're scary as hell when they touch down.

I'm worried they're going to catch something on the floor. Which I think is probably the reason I fished my mates GSX-r 600 SRAD out of the hedge today accompanied by a copper.

Take them off, get some knee sliders. And it sounds like a chunk just came off, they are fairly hard wearing.

Less concerned about rounded hero blobs designed for hitting the floor decking out then the pointy expensive footpegs Wink

And the noise didnt scare me, was just the fact my foot was moving mid corner was abit odd.

On a seperate note, when hanging arse off seat on an s-bend, do you sit back down then move to the other side of just move straight over? Im assuming straight over, but id rather check before i end in a hedge.

I move straight over, but it's whatever works for you.

Your footpegs are less likely to hit, being an inch or so higher. And once you get some knee sliders you'll hang off, and hopefully avoid being in that position.

I don't trust hero blobs. They scare me.

in S bends I was told to just slide from one side to the other if you move onto the bike sit and then move to the other side you are loading and unloading the suspension more than is needed the whole idea is to be as smooth as possible and keep the bike as steady as possible while doing it if the suspension moves up and down while direction changing you will notice a bit of kick from the front end or even during hard acceleration through an S bend a steering damper will sort it out though I am starting to think I should get one for my bike before I head back to the track

My rhs hero blob snapped clean off the first time it hit down, though I did throw it into a tightening anti-camber corner pretty hard.

Because as we all know, when you lift your bum off the seat, it takes your weight off the suspension! Rolling Eyes

Hardly. Unless you're jumping from one side to the other, lifting your arse off the seat will have less effect than riding over a baby squirrel.

Lifting your arse out of the seat and thus putting your whole weight through the pegs has a significant effect on the bike (unless you're running rock solid suspension) as it completely changes where the 'mass' is on the bike.

Tis recommended in Twist Of The Wrist as a good thing to do when you find yourself on a bumpy surface as you're putting the weight nearer the ground and decreasing the work that the suspension has to do to keep the wheels in contact with the tarmac. Just like offroaders do.

If you've got all your weight on a peg, then you dump it in the seat, then shift it to the other peg, you're going to unsettle the bike. As Blofly said.

Personally, if I'm in an S bend I kinda keep my weight on the pegs the whole way so I can slide my arse from one side to the other fairly quickly.

Errr, that would raise the centre of gravity (ie, put the weight further from the ground). Main reason to do it when riding off road is to use your legs as additional suspension for your body, and I suppose that might give the suspension an easier time..

All the best

Keith

Maybe I should sit on Bendy's head, and then stand on her shoulders, and then she can compare the difference in weight that her legs have to support... Rolling Eyes

/edit - Bendy has girly bits

I'll find the exact bit in Twist Of The Wrist tonight if you like. Can't remember the precise science but Blofly is completely correct that moving from pegs to seat and back will upset the bike - it's obvious if you just try it.

It's not just about weight, obviously the weight on the bike stays the same. It's about *where* that weight is and thus which bits of the bike have to put the work into keeping it in check.

And I'm a she, not a he. Rolling Eyes

I know it upsets the bike - my point was that it doesn't load and unload the suspension particularly. The only way you'd do that would be to literally jump off the seat.

And I have Twist of the Wrist at home. Smile
