Life insurance I think would be a good start.

Is that £1000 including insurance for the bike? You might want to get yourself a few quotes. I want a fast bike, prolly about 400cc restricted, but you'll be lucky to find something for under a grand, I'd imagine. When I look on autotrader, they are almost always over £1500.
I'd quite like a Honda VFR400 or a CBR, heard they're good first bike,s plus they've got a bit more power than 125s?

Id suggest anything from a Yamaha 350YPVS to a Kawasaki GPZ600R then for £1000. You might also find an FZR600, FZ750, ZXR750, or even an early FZR1000 for that money. There's loads of bikes you could buy in this range, a mate of mine recently got a GPZ900R for £500, thats in very nice condition, and needed just tyres and an mirrors for the MOT.

Surely this would all depend on what your perception on 'fast' acceleration is. If all you have riden is a little 125, then a GS500 or 600 Bandit will seem awe inspiring. However if you are use to being on the back of a mates GSXR1000 or ZR12R you are not going to find anything even vaguely entertaining.

when they advertise in autotrader you can take at least 10% off that asking price

when i bought my bike i offered 20% below and he nearly bit my hand off and accepted straight away. i realise now i shd have offered less and he wd have accepted cos he had been trying to sell it for a while
