I used to have a few bikes as a nipper and got pulled over regular on the roads - mostly because I decided to try and redesign the two stroke engine to work with no bounce plates in the exhaust. (he he I remeber working on a gt 250 and it actually states embossed on the exhaust -altering these exhaust system may make you sound like you are moving faster, but you won't- or something along those lines)

- But today after 6 months of being back to biking - I got pulled twice. Once by a police bike then later by an unmarked mercedes.

The copper on the bike was nice enough - got straight off and spotted all the obvious things.

he said
1 - racing exhaust
2 - slight wear on the front tyre

then started asking me why he'd pulled me.
I said 'excessive speed officer?'
he said 'yes, and that rather long line of traffic you overtook on that bend'
I said 'fair cop mate, sorry'

All in all he recommended I slow down a bit and not go to Brecon with the racing can on - got a notice of warning by the roadside and was allowed to go.

So off I then went to order a new tyre for the front and pulled over to answer my phone in a layby. As I pulled out I was behind a really sporty mercedes, just crawling through the traffic. At the next set of light this guy jumps out of the front and walks over, then I noticed he was a copper and was flagging me down. I switched off the engine and he asked me what those thing were over the lenses of the bike and what colour they were.
DOH

I said they are blue officer and they protect my headlights, do you want me to turn my lights off?

He said to stop with the messing around with the lights on lights off theory or he'd do me for impersonating a police vehicle (my lenses are blue)

I said OK gov I'll just whip them off when i get home (i had my leathers on and can't think of anything more uncomfortable to 'slip' inside.) he then let me on my way.

The moral of the story is - well really there isn't one - but being caught and given a bolocking is just as bad 15 years later when your riding a bigger bike as when it was when I was a nipper on a dodgy 50cc

Over the years I have been pulled over for so many motoring offences on bikes and in cars
some for what could be considered downright idiotic acts of insanity, and my experiences with the traffic police have always been very positive

sometimes you get away with it , sometimes you pay the fine,
if it was not for the traffic police I would have more than likely killed myself 28 years ago.

Shocked don't believe I'm praising the police, must be getting old. Thumbs Up

Ummm, loud exhaust, blue headlight covers and you wonder why you get stopped? Why don't you try the stealth approach rather than the tart's handbag look. Very Happy

eye tintin - I'm learning fast. Its going to be better if I don't give them the chance to pull me.

Unfortunately I have been caught up in the 'new' bike buzz. Got a bit carried away with the 'frilly' bits. Rolling Eyes

It just seems a shame that I can't 'tart' the bike up to look good without the police pulling me up for it. I think that as long as you 'rev' responsibly my exhaust is OK. I mean its not as if I'm the kind of kid that still goes tearing down my own street on my back wheel at 11 oclock at night, revving like a bastard.

But then again tintin - I suppose I am to old for the 'frillies' - time to get all that crap off the bike so they have no excuse to me over.

The moral of the story as I see it.

Be honest polite to the police when pulled and your likely to get treated fairly.

Act like a dickhead and you will get treated as such.

You mate sound like a nice chap and the police saw that and treated you as such.

All in all sounds like good policing just are glad it wasn’t a sodding speed camera but a person or you would now have 3 points and a nice fine to pay.

8 times out of 10 if you have dealings with the police and you treat them like a normal human being they will treat you in a courteous and civil manner back.

If I'm filtering and come up next to a police car I ususally nod say hello and if there's time talk about something banal. That way they will let you go when the lights turn (and hopefully not pull you when you get up to 60mph in 3 seconds Shocked) . I think they reognise that riding a bike means you have more road awareness and are generally more sensible then the average car driver.

exhausts ok as long as it's not taking the piss loud

coloured headlamp covers in any colour are unforgivable but blue is a tug at every opportunity - or worse red or pink

looks daft and is asking for trouble

There are some right bastards as well though. Friday night I was filtering down the side of stationary traffic in the pouring rain and a police van was coming towards me in the outside lane of a 2 lane road, nothing inside him, he drove straight at me flashing his lights, honking and waving his fist. I almost turned round and went after him and asked him what the f*ck he was playing at - then I thought better of it!

That said there are decent coppers, usually the ones who ride bikes though.

I'll just have to wait and see if I get pulled with my Nikkon on. Its VERY loud! And I think its classed as a race can as well. Oh well, I'll stuff it for the MOT, no reason why it shouldn't pass.

Being pulled 2 times in one day is a bummer. I only been pulled once since I been riding. (August)

In my limited (2) run ins with the police I've found that if you treat them with respect they will do the same to you also. If you start mouthing off and saying "what about your constable doing 160" you are asking for points. Be appologetic and sincere and chances are they will send you on your way with a good telling off.

I can't help but think the title of this thread should be "Pulled over twice in an hour today. Lucky Cunt". lol most of us poor souls who get pulled over actually get fined rather than let off! I'd be chuffed! Very Happy

This is why I hate speed cameras so much. In the days before cameras, if I was going over the speed limit and the police saw me, 9 times out of 10 they wouldn't bat an eyelid - they could see I wasn't riding dangerously. A couple of times they stopped me and gave me a lecture about speed, for my own safety, and then you would both go on your way, no harm done to anybody. This must have happened millions of times to motorists over the years

But speed cameras don't do that! They cannot act on their own discretion ! They cannot let you off with a talking-to! You pass one, slightly over the speed limit, and you are automatically prosecuted, every time, no matter how safely or considerately you had been riding. It's all wrong.
