New bikes bought !! Yammy 600, and Honda VTR Firestorm 1000

I feel physically sick with parting with a lot of money today, but also SO bluddy excited at the prospect of getting my new baby next weekend.

We took a trip to a Midlands bike store today, just looking, although we have been desperately searching for a few weeks for the 'right' bike for each of us.
I had a glance round, ..nothing. Then I saw her...mmm.. a Yammy FZR600.. white, with purple and pinky red bits. Purpley/pink dink indys, rear hugger, seat hugger, new micron exhaust, datatag, 11 thou miles, 95 model, just over 2K.
I sat on her, and it was just right. I love fairing, but a lot of the time I cannot get on with a heavily faired bike...it feels as though I have a sofa tied onto the front of the bike.
This was in the middle of not faired, and heavily faired, as I said...just right... (for me)
My feet were cool on the floor, I loved the leanage forward, (but not too much leanage..yes ?)..I just loved the bike as a whole !

I tried to act cool, y'know..yeah..well, I will think about it..walks about and all that..goes outside...

Then Fiance dived on a red Honda VTR1000.
£2,800.. 9,000 miles on the clock, 97 model.
Really nice to be honest, and I dislike red bikes, but this looked sleek.
Nice radiator slits in the fairing..looked very expensive.
I thought..woah, price slightly dearer than I like, but hey..nice bike. I bet I get it cheaper.
And if Fiance wants..I will buy it for him. Aren't I good eh ??

We were there for TWO and a half hours..umming and ahhing..it approached 5 o'clock..went past.
It was nearer to 6..the owner was waiting to go home, (had a hangover too as we found out)

We sat.
In the end, he is taking my CG for 1,200 squiddles unseen, (happy with that, I am lazy about selling, etc..)
FZR was 2K, haggling on the VTR , but in the end he said..I am tired, I wanna leave...have 200 off it. Nice.
So, after the CG comes off, 2 fab bikes, (in my eyes), for £3,400 !!.
Not bad for a couple of hours work.

Does anyone on here have an FZR ?
I adore it...cannot wait until next weekend when I pick it up.
What will it do restricted ??

2 bikes seem to be in cracking condition - particularly the firestorm (especially because its red) Great deal as well!

Not a bad deal at all.

FZR's are cracking bikes, look great and ride very well. My father has only recently sold his 1000, can only imagine that the 600 is more fun though. Go easy and enjoy it.

VTR is nice as well.

Another Firestorm on here!

The FZR should be a good bike. Fairly light and low. The R version you have there is the one with the normal size wheels (the older version has an 18" rear wheel which makes getting tyres difficult). Basically the bike is basically the same as a Thundercat. Top speed is around 150 and they are not slow bikes. I second the comment on the throttle, otherwise your daughter will be hanging on to you with her body and legs flapping round in the slipstream.

As KS mentioned, he seems to think my bike is an R version. This is correct, yes ?

I have no idea, and on the insurance website, it says there is an FZR R, FZR B,...and so on. How confusing

Hi

There are 3 basic versions of the FZR600 for the UK market.

The original one from about 1989 to 1991. Had 2 large round headlights. The slightly updated version from about 1991 to 1993 which was virtually the same but hd a single headlight. Then there was the version you are buying that is the FZR600R which was substantially revised. Shorter stroke engine which produces more power. New frame. 17" rear wheel (rather than 18"). Revised styling.

In some markets the original round headlight version went back on sale as a cheap sports bike (eg, I think America did not get the R version, instead they brought back the twin headlight version and sold that until about 2000).

This site might help, although it is US based and not that easy to navigate.

I'm too jealous for words , it may be a girly bike but i'd deffo love to ride it , and the red suits the other bike so well.

Nice bikes, but make sure you both take it very easy on them. They really are a pair of rocketships when compared to a CG125, or even an ER-5.

I don't want to read a thread in a weeks time along the lines of "I/My Bloke crashed etc..."
