Hey all, got a second hand bigger rear sprocket for my cbr, here, and ive just realised standard 'pitch' for my year of cbr is 530, and this one is

240 , 520 , 49 tooth

So... whats the crack. Can i buy a 520 front and chain and thats that? What will be the result?

Oh and i do realise with a 49 (+7 i think) rear the fronts gonna be lighter then kate moss's left breast, but... i still think the front sprocket should come down one, or possibly two.

Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Good job i hate motorways.

Oh and i forgot to add, how can i order a standard geared but smaller (520) pitch sprocket so it still fits where it should? And any good way to ascertain what chain length i need?

You can buy a 520 front look at
https://www.moto-racing.co.uk/item--Renthal-Front-Sprockets-520-RACE-USE-Honda-CBR600-91-98--CBR600+Ren+Race+Sproc+Fr+91-98.html and a 520 chain (let you find that yourself) but they are meant for track use and you may find it expensive in the long run on new chains, the plus side is a couple of Bhp extra.

The standard sprockets on a 96 CBR are 15-43 giving a ratio of 2.8666666 to 1. With the 49 on the rear you gat a ratio of 3.2666666 to 1 which is quite a difference so I wouldn't go any smaller on the front unless you want to go everywhere on just the back wheel.

Chain length, the standard is 108 links so with this rear sprocket you want a 114.

I want to go up to 49 on my D6 on the back, but then the speedo would be miles out too right? My speedo runs off the gearbox (somewhere), which also means it'll clock up miles quicker. I was wondering if it's possible to get the speedo 'fixed'. I've also gone down a tooth i nthe front.

D6? did you mean B6?
If so the speedo is located in your front sprocket casing, as you've already changed your front sprocket it's already out.
Changing the rear sprocket makes no difference to the speedo reading

Hi

With an electronic speedo you can get a speedo healer to which is adjustable for how much you need to correct the speedo.

A 520 chain will not last as long as a 530.

Also, given how cheap sprockets are I would just buy new. Not really much point in halving the life of a ~£60 chain (about right for a 530) to save a couple of quid on a £10~£15 sprocket.

Also watch out for the chain guard. You might land up having to remove or modify it to give clearance for the larger sprocket.

Suspect you will not need to go for a 114 link chain. The chain is only going round about half of the extra teeth at any one time, so a 112 link chain might do it. However given that you can remove links easily but not really add any, go for a few more that you think you need and chop out the extra when you fit it.

All the best

Keith

Digging this old thread up but heres my scenario!

I currently have a 15/50 on my R1. Now ive just brought the standard 16/43 as my speedo is out by silly numbers, and the bike is a bit to lively for my likeing

Put the sproket back on and hey presto, chain is looser then a prostitute.

The chain is fairly new, so i was thinking of knocking a few links out? Do you think this is a bad idea, as i dont want to go for a ride and find the chain wrapped round my leg

Any ideas? dont really wanna fork out 100 notes for a new chain!
