Im thinking about buying a bike which is currently declared as SORN.

How do I go about taxing it and getting it back on the road?

Thanks Smile

When you tax it, is it automatically "unsorned".

To tax it you'll need your logbook (V5), insurance certificate, and MOT certificate. Take them down to your local postoffice.

Hope this helps,
Dan.

right well it'll come with MOT, Insurance cover note can be obtained easily the only thing is the V5.

Can I use the little piece you get as a buyer to tax it or do I need to wait for the full updated document to come through?

You can use the little green bit as the new owner (as long as the previous owner has signed it) and, if you hand it in to the post office, you will get the V5 sent to you automatically.

Don't forget that the little green bit is only valid for 2 months, but you should have your V5(c) by then.

Also if you don't tax a bike you have bought then it is up to you to declare SORN on it, even if it was already SORNed. SORN declerations do not tranfer to a new owner.

I wonder how many people they are going to fine with that little loophole. Evil or Very Mad

I may be wrong but I thought I had read that Insurance cover note is not acceptable (i.e. you have to have a proper certificate).
As I said, I may be wrong but it is worth checking beforehand.

Hi Rick

Recently bought a bike that was off the road, just need to take Insurance Certificate, Full V5 or new owners bit and if applicable your MOT certificate to the post office and they will give you a tax disc and the bike is no longer SORN'ed. Simple. Mr. Green
