Hey all,

My mate has bought an 04 DT 125 and its restricted. I have read a few other posts about the restrictors but none are clear.

Could someone please type up how I can de-restrict his DT for him.

- Exhaust (His ordered a DEP)

But what else?

Thanks Thumbs Up

The carb may be jetted differently when derestricted-youll need to check that out as derestricting it may lead to it runing lean.

also check there arent any washers between the carb and the engine whilst your at it.

Keeping in mind the last time I had contact with a DT was 1989, however it was the first "R" type and the new ones look very similar.

Anyway on the one I derestricted you needed to remove the expansion chamber (front pipe) and in the exhaust port you would see that the power valve was shut, blocking half the port, you could:

1) go and buy the power valve servo kit to make it operational, I was told that you need to show your full licence to get one from a Yam dealer..but I expect these days you could bypass that on ebay

2) take the side cover off the valve and unbolt it, move it fully open and mark where the locking pin now is and drill a new hole, lock into hole and screw back together, leaving the valve pinned fully open, this cut the low end response but gave you much more top end power.

The KMX was much easier as it already had a working power valve so all you had to do was drill out the washer in the front of the expansion pipe.

Hope this helps !
