fitted new alarm, great all perfect!

however battery died, i figured this is just because i kept setting the siren off etc!

charged it up and all was fine, left it for 24 hours (didnt use the bike) and started it up next day and it all fired up off the button no problems

now today i was sitting at the level crossing with my lights on and the bike cut out .. no power so jump started it and went on my way.

way home the bike would just judder and shudder and run weird as anything with the lights on so i turned them off and it ran fine (also i got caught by the police and had to wheel the bike home 1 mile but hey thats another story for another day Neutral )

im thinking the battery isnt recharging when its in the bike, is there any way of testing this?

im 100% sure it isnt the alarm as the bike was left alarmed for a whole 24 hours un used and untouched and it didnt break down.

its a cb500 btw

thew other day when i trtied indicatiing the electics were cutting out like "tick tock" how the indicators should flash... i know for certain my old af1, my old ar50 and rooroo's cg125 all worked perfect without a battery whatso ever so my battery having less then 12v (i just took it out and it was at 11v) should matter as the generator should cover anything like that while the bike is running

also during cranking the voltage was dropping to less then 6v Sad

any advice??

checked the regulator/rectifier

and it shows 1.08v on a fully charged battery?

i think thats wrong as it is supposed to indicate a full power...

also i revved the bike and connected the meter to the battery with the light on and the voltage just continued to drop

Hi

Suggests the regulator / rectifier or the alternator is fried (it is a Honda after all). First thing to check is continuity from the regulator / rectifier down through the alternator.

I would suspect the CB500 does need a battery to run. The AF1 didn't because the ignition circuit was totally independent of the charging system, and I suspect the CG and AR were crude points systems.

All the best

Keith

Most CDI igniton runs from the battery.

Replace the regulator with a universal item as apposed to a honda one.

I suspect you have one or more bad/broken earths and the power is earthing back through the flasher relay when you switch it on. You need to find them and give them a clean up. It is possible that this could be causing all your problems.
