Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I got in a discussion the other day about the ratio of guys getting killed in motor cycle accidents to girls, and guys crashing to girls. Does anyone have an idea of what this ratio might be. I am trying to convince him that it is not a bad idea for me to get a bike.

You'll be very hard pushed to find any meaningful data on that. There is the problem that very few women ride in relation to the number of men who do. I should have thought that there would be slightly fewer women being involved in KSI accidents than men per capita of riders.

Not necassarily, I know I have ridden way beyond my capabilities in order to prove myself Confused Only when I stopped did I realise this, not good, not sensible and I am supposed to know better.

Again depends on the rider and their attitude.

The difference is, that the bloke does this, then does the same thing again the next week because they found it strangely exhilrating Razz Smile.

G's right on that one. I binned my CBR6 and I still wanna get back on a bike. And I'll proberbly get caught in the moment next time i'm in the same situation. I just love tearing round country roads. Laughing The falling onto the road just winded me, the real pain came from Craig booting my arse on his way passed.

I was inches from death when i wrote off mine, but im still raring to go out on a bike even though im lucky to be here- maybe us men are mental and dont care! Shocked

Who says I won't do this again, not been down the same road again on the bike, done it in the car and thought 'how boring is this' Rolling Eyes

I could quite easily become addicted to that immense adrenalin rush Razz (but I might not, cos I am a female)

Was said in just to some degree, thus the use of two smileys! It's not only men that are stupid, I appreciate Razz.

I'm actually not a fan of such adrenaline (despite the racing etc) and am actually moderately tame riding on road these days, if you're looking for an anti-stereotype Smile.

I am going to take that as a joke, as I'm sure (from the wink) that that's how you meant it. Because if not, consider yourself slapped black n blue Evil or Very Mad

G - Yeah ok, I ain't gonna argue cos your a sweetie, I was just trying to get across that statistically females are no better than males when it comes to taking risks, reaction times, whatever.

So, if as many females as males rode, probably wouldn't be that much difference in accident statistics, basically down to rider attitude/ability.

Women commonly have a better attitude. The statistics would very probably be similar to those for overall road accidents. Women tend to have more smaller accidents, but fewer KSI (killed or seriously injured) accidents.

Of course, women riding bikes aren't common, so it's difficult to stereotype them like car drivers. Individual skill and attitude are going to be important in a relatively small sample.

Barring moped riders, female motorcyclists seem to be very serious and committed. I'd therefore hazard a guess they are less likely to be involved in an accident.

Its a general trend ive observed in life, women are either disinterested in something or whole heartedly committed......Just an observation...

Yeah I notice the same about men ! They are disinterested in housework, and whole heartedly commited to sex, bikes & alcohol. In general of course Wink

This is a really interesting thread
Personally I think that women in general (not trying to stereotype) are less competitive and aggressive than men so therefore they will have less accidents in the "my bike is better than yours" situation but that attitude only accounts for a small percentage of motorcycle accidents. I'm not saying that women don't have this competitive streak in them but they usually assess the risks more than men before going ahead with such actions.
On the other hand men are usually more assertive and once a decision is made he'll stick to it which is also a very important part of riding safely (once you're committed don't question yourself just concentrate on the maneuver)
