I have one of these cameras, and the videos record onto little DVDs. Is there any way of getting the videos off the disc onto your computer hard drive as they seem to be integrated into the menu, like a film DVD.

Is specialist software required?

Thanks, Kurt

That's so they're in a format that standard DVD players can read. The videos are the files that end in .vob.

Have a look here for some general advice:
https://www.digital-digest.com/

I use a piece of software called FlaskMPEG to encode DVD files as MPEGs, AVIs etc.

https://www.flaskmpeg.net/

I've never used those DVD-burning camcorders - can't they record to tape at all?

The camera should come with USB cable and some software "ImageMixer Ver.1.5 for Sony DVD Handycam". From there it's very easy to import the movies from the camera to your PC. They save as MPEG2 movies.

Hope I don't sound too old fashioned, but CD players tend to skip in cars, how would you stop the DVD recorder from skipping if it's strapped to your tank?

I would have thought (no actual knowedge of this) a remote camera would be better, and then put the DVD recorder in a padded area to minimise skipping?

CD players haven't skipped for a few years Wink

They all come with far better mechanics now along with memory buffers before the stuff is written to disc so it should be good Thumbs Up

Thats a good point Chris, I think Oni's right, as it records to its little hard drive first, then you can review it - if you like it - save it, if not delete. Its all pretty funky stuff, its just getting my head around it.

Silver - Im having some editing some editing problems - im sending a PM in a sec mate

Thanks, Kurt
