PostPosted: 03:10 - 07 Jul 2005    Post subject: 400cc bikes Reply with quote

hey everyone
been a while since i been on here i guess (finnishing college and all)
anywho i was just thinking about getting a new bike (not really soon mabe next year when i can afford it)
i was just thinking about a 400cc 4 stroke thats cheap on petrol and will do 60+ miles per tank (at the moment i have a dna 4 stroke 125 that costs about 10p a mile which i guess is ideal for me but i want a bigger better looking bike, still wouldnt mind if it costed 10p a mile though Laughing )
so if any of you lot can drop me some ideas that'd be great
also since the tanks for bigger bikes are like twice as big as my little tank how many miles would you expect to get out a tank? i get about 70 out of mine and its a 10 litre (id take a guess and say it was about the same because of the bigger engine and bigger tank?)
thanks in advance to anyone who posts as always

if you wasnt in the red line constantly then you will see about 180 - 200 miles

I think I maybe get the same on the VFR, it does drink it a hell of a lot more than it should at the higher speeds.

For one the zxr has a 16litre fuel tank not 17 and no supersport 400's get anywhere near 200 out of a tank, thats tourer range and they aint tourers.

I used to get 130 miles to reserve on the VFR when commuting, regular as clockwork. Longer dull journeys gave a bit more.

Cheers

well i'm selling a bandit 400, 160miles to the tank (excluding reserve) works out about 65mpg if my calculations are correct.. cheap to insure and if you drop it, not much to damage! Smile

ok thanks for the posts, the bike will no doubt only be used for college (knowing my luck i wont have the cash for one till i finnish college so its either 2 - 4 days a week or 5 days a week its gonna b used... till i can get the gf into bikes that is, which doesnt seem likely cuz shes a safety nut and thinks ill kill myself despite some of her family never gettin killed on bikes)
anywho i just wanted some idea of the range of 400's i must say the sv400 2005 model looks nice with the blue and white colours, the sv650 2002 looks real nice too so ill check some prices also the bikes look kinda small like they can be handled by a bloody learner! Laughing which i guess would sort out any problems anyone moving up in power could have (like being scared of a bigger looking bike like a zxr)

Mine does about 100 miles to £7.50 - £8.00. I tend not to run it dry. Once I had 115-120 out of a tank and it didnt cut out, but i was worried it would (on a busy motorway Surprised )

I would say 110-125 at a guess for my tank ( thats a ZXR400 by the way)

I get 210km to a tank on my VFR and thats thrashing it over short journeys with up jetted carb's.
On a good long run at 60mph i see no reason why it would not do 300km to a tank.

200? I seriously doubt it Wink

and I rarely thrash mine for long periods.

L2 model btw.

100 ? then reserve ?

get the bike looked at

i used to do a 140 mile blast on a sunday on mine frequantly hitting 130mph plus and still never hit reserve

Yup - the zxr400 has a 16 litre tank, and I get about a 100 miles (generally more) before I have to put it on reserve, when I have about 20 miles left.

Someone with a brain will be able to tell you how much that is per mile!

100ish miles is about right for a Sunday thrash, think there's some rose-tinted spectacles being worn here.

Im very sure mate, one of my best friends owns one and ive ridden with around 20/30 of them off this forum, max he's ever had was 155 on a tank and thats once.

Most ive ever had from the rvf was 155 miles before i crumbled and went to a petrol station.
