A couple of months ago I fitted a Loobman to my bike and have been dead happy with it so far. Yesterday I filled up the bottle as I usually do and fixed it back in its usual place (Behind the black plastic flap that you have to swing open to get the seat up on an SV). I woke up early, so thought I'd go out for a ride. Going out on the Thirsk road I was coming up to a point where I knew there was a lay by, and I was in 2 minds whether to go on to Thirsk or stop for a quick fag as I was in no rush. I'm glad that I decided to stop, as when I pulled in and put the bike on the side stand I noticed some oil dripping onto the floor and a load of smoke coming from around the engine. Now, I'm no mechanic, but even I know that this isn't a good sign and though that I'd blown the engine. A closer look revealed that what had actually happened was that the resevoir bottle on the Loobman had worked loose (well, more likely I hadn't put it back properly) and come into contact with the exhaust header pipe, causing it to melt and dump the oil everywhere, hence the smoke and dripping oil. It must have just happened before I pulled in, as the bottle had only melted enough to allow the oil to leak out. I then realised that the back tyre was covered in oil, so I reckon I was quite lucky that it hadn't happened on a twistier bit of road and that I had decided to stop when I did. I had a very cautious ride back to the nearest garage with a jet wash so that I could get all of the oil off the back tyre and the back disc and continue with my ride! So, those of you who use a Loobman, it might be worth checking that it can't come loose and melt like mine did. |

If you've got the touring version of the Scot Oiler then take care. Mate of mine had an off coming out of Squires. On further inspection he found that someone had turned his Scotoiler into purge. Pissed oil all over his back tyre. ____________________ https://hyperbikes.forumsplace.com/ |

Scottoiler, sod that, just carry a can of chain wax/lube around with you. Cheaper and less danger! ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |

The thing is, I never keep a bike long enough to warrant fitting a Scottoiler to it. Besides, lubing the chain regularly seems to do the trick. ____________________ Current bike: VTR1000F Firestorm. Previous: Firestorm (written off) - XJ600 Divvy - NSR125 - DT125 and a load of offroaders. |
