ok.. for those of you who might remember, my 82 yam has a charging problem

I had taken it to the shop, and they had told it was a dud regulator. Which i changed with a new one to no avail. IT still wasnt charging and I was cursing the shop guys but I checked the first regultor and it was actually faulty.

So i did a static test on my alternator like someone (stinkwheel, alains etc) suggested..

The white wires (a-c wires) show 1.2 ohms as opposed to 0.48 required. But I had measured at the end of the connector and not at the coil. So i guess thats ok

The other two wires (Green and brown) from the field regulator coil shows 14 ohms. as opposed to the required 4 ohms. I guess even that should be ok as i measured at the end of the connector.
The beginnings of these wires are rather inaccessible

I started the bike and was a fool and checked the voltage on the white wires.. and it increases with revs to some 15-20 volts etc.

And no voltage is being seen at the green and brown wires to the field coil. I dont know much about the field coil or if it is supposed to show any voltage.

Can someone please tell me as to what could be wrong?
Does the alternator/field coil sound alright? IF so I need to go through the loom mostly now.

Alsoi without the field coil putting out any voltage, wont the alternator be running at no load throughout and hence possibly burn out something else?

thanks all

I learned a bit more about field coils thanks to stinkwheel. I reckon checking the brushes to see if they are broken is a good idea.

heres 3 more questions

1. will broken brushes fry the regulator usualy?

2 So the only way to see if the brushes are intact is physical verification?
there are no symptoms as such?

3 I really havent figured out how to open the alternator yet or which one exactly is the alternator for that matter. IS changing the brushes a big job? (if that infact is the problem)

thanks again
