It's Moment Of Truth time for my Gixer, just put the standard can and plate back on, but i'm a bit concerned over my front tyre.
It has between 1mm and 1.6mm on the centre, and about 2mm on the edges, fairly difficult to gauge with my tread depth tester.
So, is it a fail?
I'm due a new front tyre, but was hoping to make it last until payday. Unfortunately my MOT won't last till then, so i have to get it done.
Any ideas/knowledge/suggestions????

It's 1mm for motorbikes, so should pass, maybe with a suggestion to get new tyres.

The bloke who does the MOTs is an arsehole, i'm worried that he'll get on his high horse.
Confused

Can you not take it elsewhere to get it tested if you're worried about one specific guy? I would have thought it would pass, but they'd recommend you get a new tyre, and carry on to try and rip you off themselves. You could always take your own tread depth gauge to prove the point if you're sure it is deep enough.

Borrow money from someone, get a tyre now, have more fun due to not worrying about having a crap tyre. Razz

Try it and see.

If it fails it's a good excuse to go get some race scrubs!

Where are you taking your bike?

I live round the corner from you, and I haven't yet needed to think about MOT, so wouldn't have a clue where to take it... Embarassed

Without wishing to name names, it's a place in hatfield town named after a slang term for automatic/CVT scooters.
I just get the impression from him that he believes he is doing you a favour by letting you pay him for an MOT.
The bearded wanker.

p.s, I think i will be taking my own tread gauge along with me. No doubt if i do, he'll find something else to moan about or fail me on.
Plus, he's a cock.

The current MOT standard is 1mm over 3/4 of the breadth of the tyre, all the way round the tyre. Go round the whole tyre with a depth gauge.

Laughing

That would be 'Twits and Goats' then..... Mr. Green

Had a look in there once, whilst shopping for a bike. Noticed the overly inflated price's on below par stock. They still have a Honda Bros that a mate of mine sold them - from two years ago.
Wanting over a grand for it aswell. Shocked

It passed! The beardy twat didn't even make mention of my worn front tyre, and he was almost polite and courteous - most unlike him!
