I've heard the pictures are useless pictures, and they look like they've been taken with a mobile phone. Smile

the one i saw was from a car about 20 metres from the back of the bike following it. on a poor quality phone. it could be any bike. there was a side view. but poor quality camera again means it could be any bike.

Hi

The pics are from a hell of a long way away and blown up a massive amount.

It is a 675cc triple. Could be interesting.

All the best

There have been rumours on this bike for some time, mainly from MCN.

However despite MCN's reputation for being a bit of a comic, I have heard independent rumours that support their theories. It might also be safe to say that these rumours can be relied upon, as they appeared before the MCN story and come from someone who claims to work in the Triumph Factory. This person is not the MCN Mole as far as we can tell.

The rumours go thusly:

The bike has been in development for two years because Triumph don't like making fours, and don't like competing directly with Japan. They want a kind of halfway house between a 749 and a CBR600RR, and they may have succeeded. The rumours say less than 180kg fully fuelled, radial calipers and master cylinder, underseat (read 'fashion') exhaust, 675cc (to try to persuade the FIM to allow 675cc triples in supersport racing) 100bhp+, USD forks.

Sounds cool, because I loved my Daytona, it was just too big and heavy. I had actually commented (on T595.net) before I heard the rumours, that I wanted a smallish triple that is lightweight and did not have 170bhp+ like a Blade/ZX10 beater might have (it would be too difficult to compete anyway). I also know that high up members of the Hinkley company /do/ read t595.net. (I doubt they post though! Wink )

So. Triumph. Where is my royalty cheque? Smile

BTW Jordan,

The yellow bike on the MCN cover is an 'artists rendition' or whatever they call it these days. Smile

I thought 675cc triples were allowed in supersport racing anyway. Question

I've no idea. Maybe they are in British Supersport and not in World supersport or perhaps the other way round. The guy I chatted to said that Triumph needed to persuade the FIM, so who knows?

Only thing I'd say is Triumph aren't into racing. (Other than in thier own class)

not at the moment, as they are aware that they are not competitive.

However Triumph Valmoto raced Daytona 600's in supersport and won a Junior TT with one...

That was more ValMoto than Triumph, though Triumph did support them. Something that they claim they won't do for the foreseeable future.

Mind you, ask someone who works for Triumph about a 680 tripple and they'll say "A what tripple?"

I think it's meant to be be the next model of the Daytona supersports range ie Daytona 600 then the 650 and now the 680 possibly?

I have started thinking about what bike I would get in the next few years to replace my Daytona 600 and I would definitely stay with Triumph rather than defect to the Japs if they brought this out Thumbs Up or keep my 600 and get a Speed Tripple Very Happy

Someone on the Triumph forum got a pic with their mobile of what they believed was this bike.

Checking the number plate with the DVLA did indeed confirm that it was a 675cc Yellow Triumph.

I cant wait for it- Its exactly what I want... Triumph, roughly 100bhp, sports bike, but not four cylinder.

Got my latest edition of Bike this morning, its packed out with the new triumph, it looks very good so far, a quick read of the editor section suggests its a good bike as well.

The mag wont be on general sale for a few days so I will update you with all the details tomorrow.

I was at the triumph factory last thursday and we saw a couple of the 680s riding out and around with topboxes full of datalogging equipment. I also saw 2 of them on the production line being built. Looks awesome and sounds amazing. Has the characteristic triple chirp and by the looks of the way the testrider was throwing it around its handles just as well as the daytona. We also saw some kind of bike in the dyno room that had knobblies on????

I would guess that was either the Bonneville Scrambler or next years Tiger. I'll be down at the factory in a week or so - I'll keep my eyes open.

Bike's Journos seem to think its a biking event on a par with the release of the 916 or the RC30. They certainly seem to like it.

They tested it back to back with a 600RR and an '05 ZX636R and they claim they couldn't keep up with the 675...

And it looks like sex on wheels... Cool

certainly looks interesting, not sure if im a convert though.
only time will tell, cos even though the design is nice, it looks like the new r6 will move the class on again in aesthetic terms. so it may be outdated by the time its released. but maybe it wont. i certainly see (and like) the appeal of a 675 triple as opposed to the standard inline four.

Ypu are taking the 'dating' of bike designs from the R6, but what if the 675 is *more* up to date than the R6? It has all of the current fashion nonsense like underseat exhaust, radial brake calipers and master cylinder, braced ally sculpted swingarm, empty space beneath the seat unit, large fairing cut outs, nose intake, evil eyes.

The R6 has the same... so whats the deal? I personally think the 675 looks better, I like the attitude of the headlights and the sculpture of the tank and tail unit. The whole thing just works together well.

Despite this, I still have a strong aversion to judging a bike by looks, and therefore I reserve judgement until I have ridden one. However, the Bike journos seem to rave about it, the sort of raving which has traditionally been reserved for Honda (who have the highest EMAP advertising budget... )

So it must have made an impression. From what they say its a *very* good bike.

Lets hope they are right! Smile
