Lol.
My gf went passed a honda garage yesterday on her way to her nans, she knows i'd been looking around for a CB500 for a while and rung me up to lemme know if i'd ever heard of it. I quickly looked em up on google (google has everything...) and found their website, they had a CB500 for sale!! So i went up that afternoon to take a look and I instantly fell in love with it!
Its a 94 model (L reg), black, 31,000 miles, absolutely lovely condition, alarm, about to be fully serviced, only £1400!! I put a deposit down straight away! Went in today, they'd got it up in the workshop, cleaned it up, not even started any real work on it but it looked so much better!! I've had a word with my bank, and am going down tuesday to pay for it! They're getting it restricted to 33bhp (£150 including labour charges...), and they've said i can pick it up late friday / saturday next week!!
I'm so excited... it sounds fantastic, looks like it'd had a brand new exhaust system, stainless-steal... apparently the other ones corrode quite badly.
Any tips or info on the CB500 would be excellent! Also if anybody knows any good dealers for parts/accessories etc, I wouldn't mind getting a full fairing for it eventually...
Can't wait! |

Sounds a bit pricey to me. I guess it is because you are going through a dealer. Mine was £1350, a year newer, with slightly less miles. I was thinking I might only get ~£800 when I try to sell it but maybe I will aim a bit higher.
Enjoy it. ____________________ About me|@Major_Grooves|My company|Digg|Flickr |

I'm looking into getting a CB5 in the near future, so you'll have to tell me what they're like!
I know that a stock CB500 can do a standing 1/4 mile in 13.2 seconds @ 102mph. Thats 0.1 second faster than an Aston Martin Vanquish, Subaru Impreza WRX STi and a Mitsubushi Lancer VI. Pretty impressive yeah? Hell yeah!
Oh, and it also did the 1/4 mile 0.2 seconds faster than a Dodge Viper and 0.3 seconds faster than a Mitsubushi 3000GT!
Just goes to show how quick they are! ____________________ Honda MBX50 | Yamaha RD125LC | Suzuki RG125F Lucky Strike | Suzuki GSF600S

^^ Good job he bought a CB then.
(but yes, that would be too much for a GS, mine was a year newer and £900 - plus repairs costs doh!) |

Ebay is the best bet for them, although it is difficult to view at times, especially for me because I'm way down in the South West. But I'm currently looking at CB's, seen a few nice ones going cheap. IMO I think the CB is better than most twins, apart from the GPZ which is better looking and has a bit more top end. But the CB is fast enough, top end said to be around 120-125, and as I said before, it does the 1/4 mile faster than an Aston Martin and a Subaru Impreza. The CB's don't look too bad either, but if I had one I would buy a black universal headlight fairing, they look pretty neat on them.
Isn't this a neat example of a CB. ____________________ Honda MBX50 | Yamaha RD125LC | Suzuki RG125F Lucky Strike | Suzuki GSF600S

Good first bike and sounds like the garage are prepping it properly
I wouldn't worry about paying slightly over the odds - it is about peace of mind too!
Also the CB500 is definately the best handling of the 500cc twins
Have fun and keep it shiny side up
PS This thread is useless without pics |

That is one thing I like about naked bikes. They all have the round headlight and never really age. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

Out of the four 500's though the CB500, is the best of the bunch in terms of build quality and such like.
The ER-5 in my opinion is an awful bike, has had so many problems dogging its production run, like weak shocks, dodgy rectifiers to name a few. Its basically built down to a price and for a Kawasaki that is bad in my opinion.
The GPZ isn't that much better, the finish on them can go pretty bad after just a few years.
Have a read of my 500cc FAQ here, https://www.gsxf.co.uk/500cc.htm |
