So how may do you know of? im just curious as I dont know anybody at all, apart from me who rides a big bike which is kind of annoying. Why is this? why is it that whenever I meet someone new they always assume that I ride a moped just because I'm 17?

Depends what you mean by ride, and what you mean by big bike.

I'm 19, but I've been riding my Daytona 600 for just over a year, and my Dads Firestorm from time to time (when mine's been out), other than that, alot of my mates who were in the RAF with me also had big bikes. Several guys with R1s, GSX-R 600/1000.

I think the problem with young people on big bikes is twofold, firstly the bikes should be restricted, and secondly the insurance is generally horrendous.

Is it me or don't you have to be 21 for the DAS!? Confused Or do you mean your A2 so you can ride 'restricted'?
