l seem to be getting vibration mainly through the fuel tank which is simular to a two-stroke. it only happens at 4,000 revs right up too the redline, at tick over and below 4,000 the bike is complety smooth and quite. is this normal for a 1000cc bike?

its was apparently dyno jetted recently after a performance end can was fitted, surely it wouldn’t mess the balance of the carbs up after they did it?

mmmm is a little odd, you may get a band of vibeyness but not all the way through the range.... And yamaha genesis/ace lumps are fairly smoothe suposedly.

Any ace owners care to comment?

I had an ace for nearly 6 years from new, the only vibes i got from it and they were annoying were around the 5,000rpm mark at about 80mph, the dyno-jetting and end-can on yours may have changed that. It should have had the carbs balanced after the job was done.
I had TTS near silverstone do a big bore and gas flow on mine, it didn't change the vibes any but made it go like shit off the proverbial shovel.

Well l,m £70 lighter and she’s still vibrating like hell. the garage reckons that the emulsion tubes may be worn out which would allow to much fuel in the engine this is due the thunderaces engine leans forward by about 45° and therefore so do the carbs which means the carb needles wears against the side of the emulsion tubes they are located in. (have been quoted £135 +VAT for replacment)

He also spoted that all the front brake pads were down the the metal Embarassed (l did,nt notice) which could also be the cause of the vibration.

theres always contant pressure from the pads on the disks, bike was also surposed to have a K&N air filter and to have been dyno jetted but neither were present. Mad

Bike was £2000
new rear tyre: £120
carb blanceing: £70
Break pads: £30

also there was loads of bloody damage to the bikes fairings hidden under various tacky stickers.

well l,ve fitted new brake pads on Saturday so that little problem is sorted.

today l striped the clutch down to see if anything was loose in there which could be causing the vibration but all was fine Sad as well as checked all engine and exhaust mounts. but its still vibrating after 4,000 revs all the way to the red line (in neutral/in gear when under load/ with the clutch pulled in when in gear and when in neutral)

Economy seems ok as l,m getting 120 miles to the fuel light so the emulsion tubes can be ruled out.

l just don’t understand what is causing it, and after 15mins of riding the bike l,m getting very painful wrists from the vibration.

Long shot,
could the rubber mounts on the engine be shot, hence transferring more vibration to the frame

Hi

Worn emulsion tubes is quite likely. Difficult to see without looking very carefully, but quite cheap to replace.

The old FZ750 based engines are quite viby around 5000rpm, but generally smooth out well with revs (I didn't notice that my old FZ750 was 1000rpm into the red line as it was far smoother there than at 5000rpm).

I would have a hunt round and check for anything loose. Engine mounts, fuel tank mounts, etc.

It is worth balancing the carbs and checking they are correct.

All the best

Keith

yesterday l removed the standard air filter and fitted a K&N, now the the bike is smooth with no vibrations Confused

the bike has a race can (micron maybe) with the K&N with no alterations (as far as l know) to the main jetting. l,ve covered 80 miles with this set up and have checked the plugs which have a dark grey colouring to the electrobe could the bike be running lean or will a K&N not make that much differnces to the mixture.

Hi

Probably will make it run a touch leaner, but then with age the wear in the jets on those carbs has probably richened the mixture.

All the best
