...that I was sooooo close at getting my knee down this afternoon Mad

Yesterday I was coming up to a corner I have gotten to know quite well - one that has an advisory 30mph speed limit in a NSL single carriageway, and flashes you to 'Slow Down!' when you whizz past at 60 - and I decided to shift myself over and see how well I could do. There was no intention to touch the ground at this point as I didn't have my sliders on, but it was a good exercise to get the feel of hanging off and conciously counter-steering through the turn. I feel I did quite well, and decided the next time I came round this corner, my knee would go down.

So this afternoon, after getting out of work early (yah, less traffic Very Happy ) and equipped with virgin sliders, I made my way to my favourite spot. Traffic was quite bad, though it seemed to come in pockets. The first attempt was no good as the cars infront were going way too slow and I had to sit the bike up just out of the apex. I had no choice but to turn around for another attempt. Wink

Back round the roundabout a quarter mile from the corner to slingshot myself past the lorries and get a clear road ahead. The setting was right, the speed was good, but the angle of approach was off. I was too close to the apex and the bike was getting closer to the kerb, with my knee less than two inches from the tarmac. Try again...

Four attempts later, no knee down, but getting ever closer. It's that last 1/2" I can't get. I think I've got it sussed though, it will just take me a liitle more effort and confidence to get it spot on. I need to stay closer to the centre line on the approach and roll the power on gently while pushing the bar. Watch this space...

When I first got my knee down it was on a decreasing radius turn, I'd find myself approaching it hard on the brakes, realising its opening it and gassing it into the apex, then it tightens up so you're forced to just tip it that little bit further and hey presto, scrapey scrapey.

Or you could just do what everyone else does and do 50 laps of the local bypass roundabout? Mr. Green
