Best 4 stroke 125cc - for a 26 year old!

Hello!

I'm moving to Bournemouth and a new job and for the first time ever I've managed to land a job that will only be 9 minutes from where I'll be living. So, I want to free myself from the cage forever (well, until I can afford two bikes and a car) and am looking for a nice, reliable 4 stroke 125 to use during the winter months. So far I like the look of the RIEJU SMX 125, uses a yamaha engine. Anyone go any advice, opinions or further suggestions?

Why a 125cc? Two reasons really, I want insurance and running costs to be as cheap as chips and I don't really see the point of more power when I'll have the ZX6R sitting in the garage.

For a nine minute commute, I would be forced to say either a Honda C90 cub or the newer Innova 125.

They may not look like 'proper' bikes but those of us in the know realise that they actually rule the world.

Had you considered something a tad larger?

Say a cb250 if you're after cheapness.

Running costs can be less, because for the same speed you're using less revs, depending on how fast you're going.

They can also be cheaper to insure (a lot of 125s are crashed) and cheaer to buy, as there's a bigger market for 125s, while a lot less people want a bike with only a bit more power than a learner bike, but not learner legal.


I would look at some slightly bigger trail style bikes myself - excellent for getting from A to B in town.


Sorry, not answered your question though, only thing I can recall about the Reiju is that I believe they had a reputation for falling apart .

Can't go wrong with a good ol' CG125 can you. Cracking bikes for a commuter. Cheap as chips to buy and run and insure. What more can you ask for.

Well, nine minutes in the car so maybe even less on the bike! Thought about walking but then remembered that i'm lazy!

250 would be better yes, but more to tax/insure/keep in petrol shame theres not as many about as there were back in the day as they are just about for commuteing/learning...

Disturbingly enough honda90s are quite pricey at the moment!

They are ace though...

CG125, still rock, can't wait to get mine on the road again..

A guy i work with has a chinese copy of a DAX, for £600! NEW! (some assembly required)

Honda 90 engine, so for all intents and purposes its a honda90 (allbeit with not quite so hot build quality)

Monkey bike as a commuter you could probably find a cuboard to keep it in while your working

Mind you, one of these would be ace...

XR 125 - durable, robust and so far reliable - remember, we are talking about an XR 125 that has be molested in MY HANDS! All it asks is a 4 quid drink of petrol every week if you're covering 9 miles there and 9 back. I'd not bother about the supermoto wheels on it. Plenty of them second hand for about 1400-1600. I might be selling mine in october for about 1600 depending on condition in order to get something more "practical", motorway work and the occasional ride out.

Try the new yam XT125 - it's the competition for the XR125 and is a looker.

But then again, the CG or SR 125 will be cheap, fulfils your brief and will be just as good on the road as any other 125 4 stroke performance wise.

The comet and XR125 are too expensive for this task IMO.
Although they look gorgeous.

I think a CG is the way to go. They pay you to insure it, it runs on happy thoughts and you could pick one up very cheaply.

Only real downside is that they're not pretty, but if you've got a 6r then why worry.

I ride a Honda City Fly 125 its pretty good and does the job. It only costs me £140 a year insurance and about £4.00 a week petrol. It cruises along at around 65-70mph. I paid £750 for it which I thought was good.
