Probably not going to be for a little while but the VFR is not getting any younger.
As seen in my Ducatti thread you can see what kind of bike I’m after, looks, speed, thunderous sound etc.
I am not really into in line bikes, more into twins and basically anything that has a kind of rumble to it.
I don’t like the R6-R1, or the ninja.
Looking for something a bit different in the price range of 2K-2,5K.
I really like the VTR but I think that I a wee bit out of my reach.

How about the TL... My favourite!!! You have to search for the good ones, but there are some beauties out there.
As for the vibes..... I like 'em and the speed is good and lots of punch!
Worth thinking about?? ____________________ Where there is a wheelie there is a way.... |

Yeah, the TL is nice, I love the sound.
Might be in the price range to.
What about the RSV Mille, what’s people’s thoughts on those (the earlier models).
More suggestions please!! ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Well 2.5K is without another loan, at the moment i have a 5.5K loan.
I could get another grand to stretch to 3.5K or a little more.

Killa, I know what you mean. At the end of last year, I was contemplating upgrading my NC30 for a 'next bike'. Looking around bike meets, dealers, online, reading magazines, etc I was trying to find a bike that would meet my criteria: must look good, sound good, go well enough, handle amazingly, be lightweight, able to do the distance I require, not fall apart at the first hint of rain, be rather rare or an oddity that not many people have (but know about), all for around £4500.
My bike list ended something along the lines of:
Original blue and white R6,
The new ZX636R,
Ducati 748,
Ducati Monster 900/S4,
Pre '94 Blade,
CBR600RR,
TL1000S,
RS250.
I searched for about 4 months in an attempt to find a bike that offered a worthily upgrade to my NC30. But I couldn't.
The Ducatis were really nice, but I couldn't live with them.
The 600s were just too passe,
The Blade would need a lot of work to get back to original trim (plus I didn't like the 16 inch front wheel),
The RS wasn't really a massive upgrade.
Still deciding what to do, I was sat at a roundabout 2 up, with a loud exhaust, indicating left with my brake light on, waiting for the traffic to clear when my decision was made for me - well, I was thrown into a situation where I had to change my bike - a Vauxhall Carlton rear ended me at an impact speed of about 40mph, writing off my NC30.
I had to get another bike now - so, quite hastily, I bought a CBR400 NC29. Nothing wrong with the bike at all, very good condition, paid in full from the insurance right off. Just didn't get along with it despite the fact that there was no fault of the bike's. So I test rode an R6 - felt like a supercharged CBR400 - but still lacked a certain something that the NC30 has between the lines of the spec sheet (sorry, bit cliche). So I looked at a 748 (have a look on the post I made in your last topic). I had a go on a TL1000S, but didn't feel as well put together as the Honda bikes I have grown up on. Plus, the SV650 hire bike I had for 6 weeks was nice, but I wouldn't buy one - same applied to the TL. The Blade was fantastic (looked at a 1994 Foxeye), but after riding it, I found the thing too fast - not just for me (double the power of my NC30 in the middle of winter), but also for my licence - speed was too easy. Owning one would either have me end up in hospital or prison (I like to ride my bikes, at least half properly). The Aprillia was a no-half measure bike - couldn't imagine doing my annual mileage on one. As for the CBR and ZX6? Couldn't justify spending £2000 more than the R6 - especially as I had rejected getting the Yamaha.
I knew what I was missing, but surely I couldn't go back to the same bike I had for 2 years previously? Nothing I looked at or considered lived up to my ideal riding machine - a HRC inspired V4. I couldn't afford an RC30 or 45 (one day, one day, she will be mine), so the only bike that remained - an RVF.
Sorry if that was a bit long winded, but anyone who's truly loved owning an NC30 would probably agree - they're one hell of a good bike, even after 15 years. |

Shit, it’s like reading my future!!
I would have tried all of the bikes above, and probably got the same results.
What really gets me down sometimes is the fact that I adore the looks and sound of my NC but I know it isn’t may years before they start to get really hard to find and maintain.
I like to get bikes based on an overall view from other riders, mags tend to focus on what it is like when you ride it for the first time, the TL I hear is great but needs money spent from some people. I have never liked the build quality of the Suzuki’s especially the funny paint. LOL
This is bloody hard, I think I am going to keep the NC until it rots, like I said when I bought it. ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

I went from a SV650S to a Fireblade, had that for a couple of years, and although I love the "I am a girl on a fireblade" status, it just never did for me what the SV did. So I went back to a SV.
After 3 months, I was bored stupid, so I knew that I wanted a twin, but something with some power, so I went for the TL. Having owned it for a while, I know that this is THE bike for me. It is odd how you just know, but I feel totally at home on it, it has more ability that I have but at the same time, I know that I will never get bored!!
I must admit I am a little biased (how do you spell that? ) but I had to go back to the SV to realise that it was the twins that I like the best. At the time I felt like a failure going from a blade to a SV650, and was not happy until I had sorted it out by getting the TL. I don't think I would go back to a in line four now. Having said that - I only have access to the Blade and I am gutted...
All in all - I hope you find what you want, or decide to stay put and are happy with your decision... ____________________ Where there is a wheelie there is a way.... |

As well as the other listing (supersport Dukes can be had for under 3k , say a 99 model 900ss);
Have you considered the Yamaha TRX850 or even TDM850?
Both great bikes which can be had very cheaply indeed. ____________________ Jamie
