''Baffling'' Question

Oh the hilarity!

The Q is: If you have a road legal exhaust and then take the baffle (innards) stuff out-is it still road legal.

My mate asked me this and i dont know! Shocked

Road legal stamps just mean its passed noise regulations. Without bafflinf it will sound like a fucking elephant farting.

So it wont be legal, however it would be hard to nick you for it.

Just like its hard to nick most people with non legal cans as they arent marked.

as far as I am aware, an illegal exhaust is one that is too loud for the road. I am sure that taking the inards out of a road legal exhaust will make it illegal due to the noise increase.

Hi

It will be illegal (unless by some very strange fluke it lands up quieter), but not sure what the laws are on tampering anyway.

For example those exhausts with a removeable baffle must have that baffle perminantly fixed in place. This is why Akrapovic (for example) have the most pathetic blob of weld possible to stop the bolt coming undone that holds the baffle in place.

Nice to see so many car drivers hear me coming and then move out the way, or look up when they hear me approaching the junction that they're about to pull out of......still doesn't stop all of them though.

Wish my RVF were like yours, having so much trouble finding exhaust companys who make a full system for the bike.

At the moment resorting to a custom made jobby.

Ahh thats a question. If you have a full race system pipes yet a fully legal can, is it illegal or legal ?

when you have to live on a main road as a 100 thousand pounds is all you can afford for a 2 bed terrace

the most annoying thing is people driving cars and riding bikes that sound like an elephant farting

it's so pointless and you just look like a boy racer/chav

why not put a few neons on as well to add to the affect

and to car drivers dont forget to have a pointlessly loud sub woofer so that you drown out the important frequencies of the other channels

I'm sorry if I offend anyone with my anti-social exhaust system, but being fitted to a 400 it's not too bassy, plus, trickling through town at 4000rpm or so doesn't cause too much noise. I haven't attracted the attention of the local plod, despite numerous encounters with them on the road.

As for out of town, I don't think I've heard a better sound than a V4 on song.

89dB is the current legal limit for the road. Any louder than that and it's illegal, even if you have compromising photos of every chief of Police in the country and a legal BS stamp, it's still illegal.
