U turns help!!!

ok got my test a week this friday on the 29th

i will pass the only thing i would fail on is the U turns i cant do them on my big arse sachs xtc 4 stroke

spent about an hour today with repsol rider practicing and i just couldnt do them.

i jumped on daves cbr125 and i did about 4 full circles no problem.

any 1 got any tips for U turning heavy bikes? the thing just wants to tip over if u lean it at slow speeds pluss its really high up and the centre of gravity is rubbish on it

More revs, better usage of back brake, get it out of your head that you can't do it, use the clock system, don't look at the pavement, look right where you want to end up, that just about covers it. If in doubt go slightly faster than you think you should be going.

You shouldn't be leaning it, for the purposes of the test you should be upright and steer it round, you aren't going fast enough to lean.

Practice slow riding in a straight line first. Slow as you can (walking pace or less), controlling the speed with the back brake. Once you have that off-pat start making turns about the place, gradually make them tighter until you can do a full lock turn.

So to practicing the U-turn, do all your head-checks and indicating. Now move off in a STRAIGHT LINE doing your slow riding (you have practiced it, you should be able to do it no problem). Once you are moving and feel you are in control (should only take a few metres) start your turn, Don't be tempted to drop the revs, if you need to slow down apply the back brake, if you need to speed up, let it off a bit. Don't be tempted to start the turn and "get it over and done with" before you are comfortably in your slow riding mode.

Oh and whilst I agree in essence with what Stinkwheel has said, it didn't work for me, I found going quickly and not worrying about it got me that test certificate.

Find out what works for you and just do it !

Be aware that if you don't demonstrate adequate slow riding skills during the u-turn, the examiner might get you to 'slow ride' the bike next to him as he walks along the pavement.

I know this because it happened to me on my test, my u-turn was fine and I went round without touching the ground or the front brake but I was having trouble controlling my speed due to having fitted a brand new clutch the night before..it was somewhat grippy!

Arrow Keep up the revs, using more the clutch control to control your speed, not your right hand.

Arrow Make sure you do not look at the curb. Look where you want to go. If you look at the curb, then that's where the bike will want to go.

Arrow Believe you can do it. If you don't think you can do it, the you won't do it.
