Before i get my new bike i think its time for some new gear:

i was thinking of a new helmet but im undecided on which one to get im currently looking at Arai rx-7 or a shoei raid in matt black.

Of the two which are better the shoei:

or the arai:
https://www.jb-moto.de/img_products/arai/arai_rx7corsair_black_big.jpg

now te shoei is only £174.99 compared to the arai at £329.99 does that mean the arai is higher quality??

personally i find shoie's to be a tad heavier but a lot more comfy... but thats on my noodle...

its a bit like shoes... just cus they are the same size dosnt mean they will fit the same....

best bet is to try them on and go for the comfiest

I personally say that price does not matter. If it fits like it should, then it will save your life (here's hoping it doesn't need to).

I have a nightmare when buying lids, as I have an unusally small head (bet that conjures up some images!! Shocked ) but I have to have an XXS but most helmet makers do not go that small. So I have the choice of an Arai Signet GT in ... wait for it... Black or White! Great! Crying or Very sad

I can order helmets in the colours that I want, but have to add more money to do it - and seeing as I paid £379 for my black lid, it seems silly to pay more for colour and have to wait for it to be made and shipped in!!

So - all in all - my advise is to go for the one that fits, and you like the look of.

Good luck in choosing! Wink

The only advice that I would give is that a matt black helmet really shows up any scratches on the lid.

my other half has a matt black shark lid, looks really nice, does shows scratches really easy, flies are not too bad to remove, just some elbow grease and soapy water!

My matt black Shoei doesn't show any scratches at all, you'd never think it was 2 years old.

The paint seems ever so slightly rubbery and thus I don't seem to have got any stone chips at all.

also consider HJC and Shark.

most lids are build to similar standards these days, and MUST pass the same tests (some comply with SNELL which are voluntary and very stringent).

my HJC FG14 fits me better than any Arai or Shoei, and cost £130.
also has quick release visor, decent venting, relatively quiet and removeable lining.

I've got the Shoei RAID shogun and its a really nice lid, but then again Arai lids are really nice too... Depends on the individual and what helmet feels more comfortable!

The Arai in the pic is looks a bit better in appearance wise, but the difference of £155 its your choice... I prefer a nice lovely looking design Mr. Green Best thing to do is to go out and try some on, see how it goes from there.
