flashing light beacons?

What colours could you use that are legal? amber on the front or back is legal aint it?

Blue and red are obviously not likely to be legal but yellow, white, amber maybe?

Think only the flashing amber one is legal. Don't know what restrictions there are on using them.

afaik, there are no resrictions on having them, but shuld only be operated when the vehicle is, or is warning of a hazard.

Think of them as additional hazard warning lights.

[edit] Yellow and amber can be considered pretty much the same, white's a no-no , as no vehicle should display white light anywhere except at the front (headlights) or when reversing, and it should also be consistent, not flashing.

green are for emergency doctors, red and blue, well.. you know who uses them...

technicaly any other lighting on a vehicle is illegal, including underlighting with neons, blue LED wiper jet lights and coloured side lights (i've seen green and blue ones)[/edit]

just thinking out loud, was reading that filtering thread and couldn't help but think 70% of the people posting on that are gonna get squishled by a big lorry one day. I don't think you should filter when you don't need too except for when traffic has stopped or is going extremely slow. especially not taking over lorrys at 90.

you'd think it was an ambulance or cop seeing something like that flashing whatever colour it is and be more aware of your presence I was thinking? or not?

Maybe, but imagine the car coming the other way, seeing your flashing yellow light and assuming you are not moving so pulls out to overtake and piles straight into the front of you.

nope most road users would think....

Breakdown truck
Lorry with wide/long load
working vehicle (road sweeper/dumper)

all of which are relatively slow, if not stationary. ie hazards.

I'd only think police of ambulance if I saw blue/red flashes

That being said, some of those high intensity headlghts you get these days have a slight blue tinge, its not the first time I've had to do a doubletake Smile

I hate those blue tint lights, seeing them flying up behind you as their invariably doing a 100. I'm thinking shit cops then it's only a bloody BMW.

Restrictions on use on recovery vehicles are that you are allowed to use them at the scene of a breakdown. However, once loaded, they are are to be turned off.
