Well I've just spoken to him,

Sounds dodgy to me, he said the bike is at his mate's bike shop while he's down south driving, said it's a TZR although it clearly says RG on the side, and then also tells me that some TZR didn't have lower fairings (Don't know if this is true or not)

Hi

Looks like "R6" on the side to me as well.

Those early TZR125s did not come with a fairing as standard. The fairing was an optional extra.

It is an early model one as it has a rear drum brake.

Not bad bikes. Derestricted they do 90~95mph (true top speed). Kick start only. Fairly reliable unless you start playing.

Hi Keith,

Think I'm going to leave it for the time being due to the general attitude of the bloke, plus I think it's the bike shop trying to pull a fast one on me.

Anyone know what a realistic distance would be to go and pick up a bike considering I'd have to ride it back? (First time on the road and all)

If you're riding for the first time on the road after a CBT I wouldn't ride more than 10 miles, and that'd be being followed by a parent or something similar.

IMO it'd be better to get someone else to ride it back for you, then you can get used to it at your own pace.

This bike seems to sound a little dodgy, I'd walk away.

Get an RD125LC project bike like I did. Can be picked up fairly cheap, I picked up mine for 260, B reg, pretty tatty, but came with a 175 quid Nikkon exhaust, brand new shock and recent Pirelli MT65's. All that for 260. They're pretty damn quick bikes, will give any of the modern 125's a good go, heard some beating Mitos and RS's upto 40-50mph. Classic bikes now, very sought after by the 30+'s who used to own them. Saw two fully restored models on Ebay, both went for well over a grand!

Hmm I'm not sure, I'm basically getting a 2500 loan, 500 of which is paying off my overdraft so that is £2000 to spend on bike, insurance, leather pants, helmet, gloves, boots and waterproofs and anything else i might need (Like a toolkit)

I'm paying over 30 months so it's £100.20 a month or something stupid like that,

Thing is I don't know if I'll have a job in 3 months, which is not really a problem as I can always start working agencies again but I might have to take a pay cut.

So the thing is, if I do commit to a bike and send off the agreement papers for this loan, I need to make sure it's going to be a good one, otherwise I will have wasted my money and got into debt for 2 and a half years Sad

If you want something reliable for commuting I wouldn't buy a rd125. They are nice bikes but are going to need too much work doing if your doing 40 miles a day.

I'm going to put my RD to the test when I'm on it and take it on a 100 mile round trip from here to Exeter and back and see how it goes. I think it'll get there no problems. I know how to look after the old fragile things. Top quality oil, changed every 6 months, 2-3 mins worth of warming up, and don't go ragging it til its been moving a good 5-10mins. Better to be safe than sorry.
