one of our neighbours started chatting to us when i was cleaning me bike this morning and the conversation got onto bikes, now he is 100% certain the zxr400 (like mine Cool ) is called a 'ninja', however i think it isn't

so is it a ninja or just a zxr400?

Yeah, the GPZ500 is a Ninja 500 in the states too.

I don't know if I would call the ZXR400 a Ninja - maybe I would because it's a Kwak and a sports bike - but the ZXR750 wasn't called a Ninja.

When someone talks about Ninja I think of the ZX6-R.

Alot of the 400's are imported(I know the ZXR400 was a offical bike), but alot of ZXR4's may have come intot he country so the UK on might be the ZXR400 the on from other countrys might be a ninja.

Abit like vauxhall & Opel!!.

Im sure someone on here will know.

Except that that's a manufacturer rebranded for the British market.

Ninja is a model name.

The ZXR400 is a replica of the ZXR750, neither of which are in the "Ninja" line of sportsbike models.

If you turn around I think the points behind you! Rolling Eyes Wink

The point was the same thing doesnt always have the same name in other countrys.

So they may both be rite in away!

Hmm possibly. See what you mean now.

Although I've never heard of a model being renamed for other countries, especially when the ZX6R is a ninja here, and in Japan.

Anyway, the ZXR's came out years and years ago, whereas the ninja's are relatively new.

I think the original Ninja was the GPZ 900 of the early 80's. The GSXr1000 of its era

ZXR400 ISN'T a ninja.

ZX6R, ZX7R, ZX9R, ZX10R, ZX12R are all ninjas. For one they have ninja written on them coming out of the factory...Whistle Thinking

And the ZXR400 isn't a ZX4R, nor is the ZXR750.

ZX4R and ZXR400 are very different bikes.

the ZX4R is in the ninja line of bikes.

the ZXR400 is a replica of the 750 race bike.

That's all.

hmmmm Interesting!!! so its def a zxr400 thats what iv always thought, but if someone asks me what ive got i say "a ninja 400 just so they know what im on about".

It Cant be a custom paint job on mine as ive seen one with paint job like mine before at brands hatch last year but the back of it was white and had a black number on it, oh and it had white wheels.

That's the US model, I had one, officially called a Ninja 250R.... thats its official name, so it IS a Ninja Razz

A rose by any other name.... doesn't smell half as sweet when its called a fucking GPX Very Happy

(edited quote so it makes more sense)

I believe the ZXR250 was sold in the US under the model 'ZX2R'. I've got a feeling the ZXR400 may have been sold as a ZX4R as well, though not sure - and may or may not have the ninja tag.

The americans seems especially in love with the 'ninja' monica, so it seems to have been added to a lot more of their bikes.

It seems what has been sold as the GPX250 and ZZR400 here may have been sold under a zx banner in the US as well.
