Since I have had this bike for 3 months the engine has died on me no more than 5 times. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as such, but I have convinced myself it only happens after I have been riding hard for a few miles.

The engine dies without warning, there is no response to the throttle and I just coast to a stop. The first time it happened the bike wouldn't start from the button just after I have stopped. I have found that turning off the ignition, turning it back on again, giving it a bit of choke then pressing the start button brings the engine back to life again just like nothing happened.

The problem started before I had a service recently, but thinking, well its going in for a service it should sort it out, but the problem still persists.

Any ideas anyone?

your sidestand sensor isnt faulty is it?

very similar symtoms to my mates aprillia 125 and we thought of that being the problem for some reason, so he gave it a try and whipped that off completely and its been fine ever since! so it ended up we were right.
a faulty sensor now and again was thinking the stand was down so cutting the engines power.

dunno if its the answer just a thought Rolling Eyes

check your air intake to the fuel tank. i had a similar problem where all of a sudden the bike would go, rev's go down and stops. pull the fuel cap off as if your filling the tank, if there's a hiss then it means you've got a vacuum occuring in ur tank and its starving your engine. if this happens then there's a block in ur air intake pipe, simply locate and flush clean

hope this helps

If it's a pre 2000 SRAD gsxr600 it could be carb icing?

Apologies for continuing the thread hijack.

Check the routing of the fuel lines, make sure they arent pressed against the motor as this can cause vapour lock.

Give your fuel pump a once over for loose connections.

The saga continues..........

I tried a few of your suggestions, but no luck there. To make things worse the problems increased. I tried to start my bike the when leaving work, pressed the ignition swtch and all I got was a click from the starter solenoid. I tried again, then no power at all. All the electrics went dead.

Bugger!! I rumaged under my seat, checking the fuse box, wiggling wires, noting stood out as an obvious fix. I turned the ignition on again, to my supprise power was restored and my bike started fine. I wasn't going to hang around.

The problem occured again this morning. Tried the same tactics as the previous night and sure again it resolved the problem. When I get to work I'll have al look with a collegue of mine who has been riding for over 15 years.

When it came to looking for a resolution to the problem, I showed my mate the problem and what I have tried as a quick fix. When showing my mate I saw a spark come from the positive point of the battery (bear in mind my bike is parked in an underground carpark, so slightly dark)! I thought 'Hello'!

Basically the problem was the screw holding the positive cable on the battery had come loose causing it to disconnect its self at high revs due to the vibration. Tightened the screw and bobs your uncle!

Sorry about the long post!
