Restricted CBR600RR?

Hi all. Well i am doing my test in a few months and the bike i really want to get after i pass the test is the CBR600RR. Only problem is, here in Northern Ireland there is no Direct Access test, so i will be restricted to 33bhp for 2 long years. I know the CBR sits at something like 115bhp and i would have to get it restricted to 33. I do plan to keep the bike for well over 2 years all things considered so i really wouldn't mind having it restricted for 2 years and then derestricted after that. My question is. Is it just silly to have a 115bhp bike restricted to 33bhp? I really do want this bike. My old RS125 was de restricted from the day i bought it and i was quite happy and comfortable with the speed and power it gave me. I'm not a speed freak and having the CBR restricted would give me lots of time to get used to the bike i suppose. Opinions please. Cheers

P.S. Riding around on it for 2 years without having it restricted is really out of the question. I already have 6 points on my licence from an insurance mix up with a courtesy bike last year and i can't take the chance on getting anymore points.

either get a 400 and restrict it or get the one u want, restrict to get paperwork, then take restrictors out

or get something else

i think restricting a 115bhp+ bike to 33bhp would be a bit silly as u still pay insurance on it as though it were full power. Especially as i hear insurance in NI is even more than here.

if you are hell bent on getting a cbr600 and restricting it then get an earlier model which doesnt have such a high bhp to be wasted

Well i have thought of getting it restricted to get the paperwork sorted and then taking it out after, but i really am worried that if i get discovered and get even one more point on my licence then i'm screwed. Has anyone ever been done for not having a bike restricted when it should have been? As in getting pulled over and the police being able to tell that it's not restricted. Like i said, i'm not a speed freak. I aint gonna go thrashing around on it at 140mph.

Oh right. I see. Well as far as insuring it goes, i got a quote for around £500 TPFT. I'm 30 but have only been on bikes for around 3 years now and i have 3 years no claims. Is that expensive? It wouldn't bother me paying £500 a year to be honest. Money isn't an issue.

£500 sounds OK to me. But I'm no expert.

No idea about FC. I didn't check. I'm actually a little worried about wrecking it within the first few weeks when i'm getting used to it. I know it's going to be a completely different ball game from a de restricted RS125. I guess i'll just have to take it really easy for a while. After seeing the video clip on here of the guy sitting outside the shop on his brand new Fireblade and then pulling off and throwing it up the street, i can see that happening to me.lol

The guy falling of his bike was a knob! Nothing do with too much power , more of mishandling that power.

I've ridden a restricted Bandit 600 before and thats much closer to the limit. Even then, you will get frustrated very quickly with the narrow power band. and lots of gear changing - I think an RR would be much worse as a result.

So, assuming you keep it restricted, I would only buy an RR if stationary posing is the prime objective. Otherwise, try an older CBR or Bandit. Thumbs Up

ok. I've just spoke to a dude in a dealership who has told me that lots of people here go over to England, do the Direct Access test and come back to Northern Ireland and just change the address on their licence. Then they are not restricted for the 2 years. Anyone know anything about this? I know some people who live in England and who would let me stay there for a week of 2. Can i book my test under someone elses address or do you need to have proof that you have lived at that address for a certain length of time?

all they need your address for is to send you letters saying when your test is.

i dont think they would care if you lived in northern ireland or not

Change your driving license to the UK address where you'd stay, take the test, and then change it back?

I doubt you'd really need to change your address. All because you live in Northern Ireland, doesnt mean you can't take the DAS in England, because it's not offered in Northern Ireland, if you see?

When Germany (don't know if they still do) had a '3 fails and you have to see a psychologist' rule, a lot of germans started coming to the UK to do their test - which apparantly was legit accross the EU.

When I done my test in Larne they told said about someone who went over to England to do his DAS and failed. Lost about 500 quid. Laughing
