My mind is actually made up on the bike i want thank god. Mr. Green

It is going to be a Honda Cbr 600.

This conclusion was made after getting a test ride for an hour the dealer rocked but im not impressed with having to pay the insurance to take it out. it was 2003 red CBR-RR. it was awsome it just kept going and it goes like hell (well it did seem to). I took it on the highway and oh my god it was mad it was empty and you could see like 5 miles straight ahead down the road. its kinda lame laws out here though you dont need a proper helmet. You can stick a ww2 helmet on and get away with it. i bought a cheap mx helmet and wore sun-glasses. didnt like riding in a t-shirt but they all seem to do it. Let my mates prat about in a car park as well. all i can say is:

I want one, NO, I NEED ONE.

*my only prob is the under seat exhaust is it possible to change it for say a micron ??*edit

To tell you the truth doesnt really have to be a RR just a cbr.

My next question is what does all the F, FY, FS... etc mean really.

ANd whats the better version of all of them exluding the RR.

Think f* etc tells you the year of that model. RY is the year 2000 etc.

I'd go for the CBR600F4i (Injection) - Lovely bike. Not the 'sport' version but same performance and still looks gorgeous.

I think the F* lettering is generally used by Honda to identify the year of manufacture.

For examply my VFR is on a P plate but this could mean 96 or 97.
The model code is FV. This identifies it as being 1997.

Also you say that you don't mind if it's not the RR, just another CBR. Why is this?

The other models are quite significantly different.

When I gave the CBR-RR a decentish test ride on the road I found it had a very flat engine (prefer the power curve from my 99r6) but did make the power and this gave is a nice neutral feel. Same with the handling, neutral and confidence inspiring - a bit too much as I crashed it by leaning too much it seems.

The older CBRs have a pretty different feel to this. Engine is less revvy, though still not too powerbandy.

I suspect they are a good bike for new riders, as they are quite neutral, flat and confidence inspiring.

Don't write off the other manufacturers, the GSXR 6 consistantly gets rave reviews and the new ZX6 is supposed to be even better than the CBR for sporty, though not quite as comforting.
Personally, I prefer a bike that feels fast on the road, but isn't, rather than a bike that is fast, but doesn't feel it (while my licence prefers that Smile

).

Thanks for help. G when it comes to insurance some of the other cbr models kinda suit my insurance budget a bit better maybe when i get some more ncb i will get the R6 i love. You dont know i might get one damnit you gone messed me up again. LoL.

For the time being i think a cbr will suit my needs.

A 99 r6 will be more similar to the RR than the older CBRs are and should be fairly similar to a similar age CBR on insurance.

what a great thread peeps. I'm still a pretty new biker and have been looking at the cbr. I'm glad its pretty neutral, that's what I think I need right now to practice and get more confident. I'd really like the gsxr6 but I think I'd prolly be intimidated by it, or kill myself Very Happy

That one might have to wait a couple of years.

When we're talking about the differences, they are relatively little compared to the difference to other types of bikes.

The CBR also has a, in my opinion, very 'extremem' riding position - I definitely wouldn't want to be riding one everyday thanks to the position.
