first time pillion

hiya

im going pillion on my friends CBR400 this week, but i know very little about riding full stop, and if im honest im not overly keen on falling off. what are the do's and dont's of pillion?

DO - Exactly what the rider tells you.
DO - Sit still, if you fidget you can make the bike unstable, especially at low speeds.
DO - Keep you feet on the foot pegs untill the rider says other wise.
DO - Look where the bike is going, this way you can be ready for braking or acceleration.
DO - Try to enjoy it!

DON'T - Try to lean the bike, that's the riders job, if you try to lean it as well, the rider may not expect it and it could end in tears (unlikely though).]
DON'T - Let go. The last thing you want is to end up on your arse on the road when the rider pulls away.

Stick to these basics and you should enjoy the ride and not cause the rider any problems. Thumbs Up

I think PsychoHippy just about said it all.

A good pillion is one who the rider feels isn't there at all, apart from the added weight and slower bike handling.

Just a slight 'take' on leaning. As PsychoHippy mentioned, don't try leaning the bike yourself, let the rider do it. But, always lean with the rider and the bike. Don't try to sit bolt upright when the bike's banking to the left or right, as this will create an unatural imbalance when the rider starts to bring the bike back to its' upright position, which could create wobble.

Also, you may feel unsafe and nervous if you hold on to the rear grab rail - especially when the rider accelerates, since you might fear falling off the back of the bike. In which case, don't be afraid to hold on to the rider around the waist. This will feel much safer and you'll be subjected to less wind resistance.

the bikes got a front grab....thing. i think its on front of me, and basically means my hands are in my own croch (its a CBR 400...or did i mention that alread??)

less than an hour to go. i have a backpack as well...thats ok int it?

bricking myself...but im sure hell be good. i mean, its his 2500 bike...and head as well lol

Also - stuff when at a standstill.

Don't get on or off unless the rider knows you are doing so.
Never put your feet down when the bike is stationary. E.g. traffic lights. Smile

just held onto ma mates leathers and looked at the road. thought we were a bit nippy you know, catching up to cars. glanced at speedo...

i felt a lot safer than i thought i would as well... and after reading the tips i remembered to stay loose, lean a little with the bike, and lean back a bit when stopping to stop banging the lids

was only about a 10 minute ride...but.....
im saving up for an RS lol

Very short ago I had my first ride on a motorcycle on the back of an r1 of a friend. At a certain moment he rode 160 mph and also did very fast accelerations and really sharp turns. I really loved it and now I am looking for other fast pillion rides on sportbikes.
